Arsenal soon put Moussa Diaby in the transfer target. And they have plenty of incentive to move this deal quickly.
1. Upgrade squad depth
With Arsenal having to fight on four fronts in 2022, the need for squad rotation becomes urgent.
Gunners are still in need of a quality attack plan in the wing corridor. Nicolas Pepe is not a factor that can turn the situation of the game, while Reiss Nelson and Marquinhos just stop at potential.
Diaby is on Arsenal’s radar.
The addition of a quality player by Moussa Diaby not only helps coach Mikel Arteta feel secure about the depth of the squad. But it also gives the motivation to compete with both Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka for the main kicks.
2. Score goals
One of the most important factors leading to Diaby’s success is his ability to score goals, especially last season – 17 goals in all competitions. Saka and Smith Rowe played well last season, scoring 12 and 11 goals respectively. Meanwhile, Diaby also scored more than the combined goals of the trio of Martinelli, Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette last season.
Having a winger who can score at least 10 goals a season would be huge for Arsenal to have access to and would ease the scoring pressure on teammates up front. The French player is left-footed, skillful and knows how to make the opponent struggle.
Diaby is a versatile player.
In the 2021/22 season, Martin Odegaard has 5 assists, Bukayo Saka and Lacazette have 7 assists in all competitions. And Diaby is double that number, he has 14 assists for Leverkusen.
That doesn’t mean he can repeat those numbers in the Premier League (as was the case with Pepe). But the above figure also shows that Diaby in addition to his remarkable ability to score goals can also create good assists for his teammates to score.
Obviously, he is a versatile player and can take on many different roles up front. Diaby can use the speed to bring the ball down to the bottom third of the opponent’s court and then have a plan to pass it in to his teammates to cut the tape. Or he can break into the middle and make good, nimble bans to open up opportunities.
From the three factors mentioned above, it can be seen that Arsenal will have a lot of benefits if they bring Diaby to Emirates . The price of 60 million euros for such a player is a reasonable and promising investment.
