Darwin Nunez of Liverpool faces a lengthy suspension for his headbutt on Joachim Andersen.
Darwin Nunez, Liverpool’s star striker, could be out for a long time after being sent off on his Anfield debut for a headbutt on Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen. The 23-year-old was sent off on his Anfield debut after seeing the red mist, and he will now miss at least three games. And Express Sport looks at four emergency striker transfer options for manager Jurgen Klopp.
Alvaro Morata has already had one spell in the Premier League after joining Chelsea from Real Madrid in 2017. But it didn’t work out for him as he suffered a torrid time during many of his 72 outings for the side.
The 29-year-old has since impressed for Atletico Madrid and Juventus and has been tipped to return to England, with Manchester United said to be interested. The ace is reportedly available for around £30million this summer. And Klopp could decide to lure him to Anfield and see if he can finally produce the goods in the Premier League.
If Liverpool don’t want to shell out a significant transfer fee, they could target another ex-Chelsea striker in the shape of Diego Costa. The 33-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Brazilian team Clube Atletico Mineiro in January. And he’s already proven he can cut it in the Premier League, having bagged 58 goals in 120 appearances for the Blues.
Costa helped Chelsea win two Premier League titles and the League Cup during a three-and-a-half-year spell at Stamford Bridge. And Klopp would surely jump at the chance of getting another proven winner to Merseyside.
Another free agent who is currently looking for employment is Euro 2020 winner Andrea Belotti. The 28-year-old Italy striker left Torino at the end of last season after scoring 113 goals in 251 games for the club. Belotti has been attracting interest from Wolves but has reportedly agreed to sign for Roma.
But if Klopp can hijack the move and entice him to Anfield, the German would get his hands on another goalscorer.
Klopp may prefer to sign a younger player who already has experience in the Premier League. And Armando Broja could tick that box.
The 20-year-old Albania forward impressed for Southampton during a loan spell on the south coast last season but appears to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. So if Klopp puts in an offer for the player, he could turn the head of Stamford Bridge bosses.
