He has founded organizations
Doug founded the charitable organization Care to Learn, which focuses on providing essential resources to children in poverty-stricken areas, helping primarily in three areas: health, hunger, and hygiene. He also founded a technology company called ServiceWorld Computer Center in 1991.
He is a father
Doug has been married to his wife Lisa Pitt, for over thirty years, and they have three children: Landon, Sydney, and Reagan. Per Amo Mama, when he proposed, he hid her engagement ring in a plastic egg surrounded by chocolate eggs in an Easter basket. Lisa said the secret to their successful marriage was their faith.

In 2012, Doug appeared on Nova FM speaking to hosts Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli where he revealed the same question he’s gotten for decades, per LAD Bible. “I appreciate the interest, I understand why people want to ask about him but, you know, I’ve answered the same question for 25 years,” he said, explaining that he goes ‘a little bit on autopilot’ whenever someone asks a question. He’s a photo journalist
Doug’s works as a photojournalist have been published and displayed in numerous galleries. At the World May Hear Awards Gala 2011 in St. Paul, Minnesota Pitt received the Humanitarian Leadership Award for helping the foundation facilitate a hearing mission in Tanzania. Other award recipients include President Bill Clinton and actress Marlee Matlin. He sold his photographs at the event to benefit the organization.
He teamed up with the NFL to bring clean water to Africa
In July 2013, Pitt facilitated NFL future Hall of Famer Ray Lewis’ inaugural visit to Tanzania, to raise funds for clean water initiatives. In 2016 Waterboys.org was established, marking the initiative to provide life-sustaining well water to communities in East Africa. With the support of the Chris Long Foundation, Chris Long and Pitt launched this effort, utilizing NFL connections to rally players, fans, and locker rooms to fund Waterboys projects in Africa. The NFL Network made a commercial about it hosted by Matthew McConaughey.
He is a Goodwill Ambassador
Doug has held the title of “Goodwill Ambassador for the United Republic of Tanzania”, since April 2010. He was appointed by President, Jakaya Kikwete. As Ambassador, he works with NGOs, businesses, and faith-based organizations that want to do business or provide humanitarian partnerships in Tanzania, per Patch.
He sanctioned the first-ever bike ride down Mount Kilimanjaro
Doug and WorldServe International secured a sanctioned permit to mountain bike down the tallest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro at 19,340 ft. The biking & climbing took place over 7 days and included 18 participants who took on the charity challenge, which brought clean water to over 150,000 Tanzanians, per Adventure Travel News.
