Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta finally moves on outcast as he ignores Gary Neville blast

Arsenal have just four days left before they get their Premier League campaign underway, with Mikel Arteta hoping to bounce back from missing out on the top four last season

There are now just four days remaining before Arsenal kick off their new Premier League campaign with a visit to Crystal Palace.

And Mikel Arteta has begun the final week of his preparations by finally starting to cut down his now-bloated squad. The Gunners have made five signings so far this summer, meaning plenty of fringe players will find themselves struggling for game-time.

The news comes as it Arsenal fans delivered their predictions for the upcoming campaign and Arteta made a decision that goes against a warning from Gary Neville. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Arsenal news.

Lucas Torreira is finally set to bring an end to his stay at Arsenal.

Lucas Torreira looks set to finally leave Arsenal, having seen a move to Fiorentina collapse earlier this summer.

The Uruguayan has no place in Arteta’s plans, spending the past two years on loan at Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina instead. He returned to the Emirates at the end of last season following the end of his spell in Serie A.

But despite spending all of the summer with the Gunners, he appears to have played his final game for the Premier League club. Reports from Italy claim that the 25-year-old has finally found a new club, with little chance of game-time under Arteta.

Gunners warned about title hopes

Arsenal fans have made it clear that they do not have high hopes for a title challenge in the upcoming Premier League season.

The Gunners threw away a place in the top four in the final weeks of the last campaign. They were ultimately forced to settle for fifth instead, and a place in the Europa League, after losing two of their final three games.

Arteta has led a revamp this summer, bringing in Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira, in a bid to see his side bounce back from that disappointment. But it does not appear that supporters believe that business has done enough to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool.

Arteta ignores Neville

Mikel Arteta has made a decision that has seen him ignore Gary Neville.

Gary Neville has been a leading critic of Arsenal’s strategy under Mikel Arteta’s management.

The former Manchester United captain recently doubled down on his feelings towards the direction the Spaniard is taking the Gunners in. He recently replied to one Arsenal fan by saying: “You blew up with the best chance you’ll have of finishing 4th! Is that the strategy?”

Despite those thoughts, Arteta has now made a decision that flies in the face of Neville’s thoughts. It is one that could lead to more criticism from Neville if it backfires, something Arteta will hope does not happen.
