Out-of-favour According to reports, striker Mauro Icardi of Paris Saint-Germain is willing to move to Real Madrid before the transfer window shuts.
Mauro Icardi would be open to the prospect of joining Real Madrid this summer, according to Defensa Central, since his time at Paris Saint-Germain could be coming to an end. The Spanish and European champions are searching for a replacement for Karim Benzema and considering the Argentine as a possibility.
Icardi joined PSG in the summer of 2019 from Inter Milan, originally on loan, and had a successful first season in France. It led Les Parisiens to sign him on a permanent basis, but since then, things have not quite gone as the Argentine had hoped. Over the previous two seasons, he has only started 21 Ligue 1 games, placing him below Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar in the standings.
Icardi’s chances of playing under new boss Christophe Galtier have been further diminished by PSG’s addition of Hugo Ekitike this summer, and the Parisian giants are prepared to transfer him. Although a transfer to newly-promoted Serie A team Monza had been discussed, recent developments on that front have been quiet.
However, there have also been unexpected ties with Real Madrid, who are looking to add a striker this summer. In the current transfer window, Borja Mayoral and Luka Jovic have already left Los Blancos; the latter has returned to Getafe permanently, while the former has joined Fiorentina.
It has left Mariano Diaz as Benzema’s sole backup in the No. 9 position, although the Spanish capital club is also trying to sell the 28-year-old. Additionally, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will need to sign a new center-forward to replace Benzema and compete with him because Juanmi Latasa of Real Madrid Castilla is also probably on his way out.
Timo Werner was said to be moving to the Bernabeu, but the Chelsea star is returning to RB Leipzig instead. They are also reportedly considering Icardi in addition to other forwards like Benjamin Sesko and Amine Gouiri. And now, according to the report, the Argentine international is willing to go to Real Madrid if the chance arises.
However, as a result of the Kylian Mbappe transfer scandal in the summer, relations between Real Madrid and PSG are at best chilly. It would be intriguing to see whether the two teams can come to an agreement if Los Blancos are serious about signing the 29-year-old.
