The lone Liverpool player to earn a spot on the PFA team of the year for 2024 is Virgil van Dijk.

Along with a slew of Manchester City and Arsenal stars, the Dutchman is one of just two players from clubs that finished outside of the top two from last season to earn a spot in the squad. The other is Ollie Watkins.
This is the 2024 PFA Team of the Year: David Raya, Kyle Walker, Virgil van Dijk, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice, Rodri, Martin Odegaard, Phil Foden, Ollie Watkins, and Erling Haaland.

In Jurgen Klopp’s last season as Liverpool manager, Van Dijk proved pivotal to the team’s defense once again. The Dutchman’s leadership was on full display when, with time running out in the Carabao Cup, his swerving header sent the traveling Kop into ecstasies at Wembley, sinking Chelsea despite Liverpool’s injury woes.
This past season, Liverpool were able to reclaim their place in the Champions League thanks to the center back’s 36 Premier League appearances, two goals, and third-place finish from last year.
The Dutch defender, who joined Liverpool for a then-record £75 million in 2018, has grown even more remarkable since his move to Merseyside, as he has been named to his fourth PFA team of the year. Van Dijk, who took over as captain of Liverpool from Jordan Henderson last summer, will be eager to continue Henderson’s trophy haul this year. One Carabao Cup has already been won by him.
