Criticism towards the Camp Nou team has not stopped appearing in recent days.
Barcelona played their last game of pre-season and beat Pumas 6-0 at Camp Nou in the Joan Gamper Cup final. With this being the club’s first game of the summer at Camp Nou, Barca introduced the entire squad and coach to the fans before kicking off the competition against the Mexican representative.
The audience present on the field cheered and clapped with joy as they witnessed their favorite players. Sources Mundo Deportivo revealed that coach Xavi Hernandez was one of the people who received the most applause and cheers, along with new signing Robert Lewandowski and young players Pedri and Ansu Fati.
However, one Barca player received boos and whistles from fans when he appeared on the pitch during his pre-match debut. It was none other than Martin Braithwaite. The Danish striker has been out of action at Camp Nou since Xavi took the hot seat. Recently, he was even announced by the Barca leadership to leave the club. But Braithwaite insisted on staying at the Camp Nou, despite all Laporta’s persuasive efforts.
After a period of negotiation, the 31-year-old striker was offered by a rich team in Saudi Arabia to recruit. However, Braithwaite has made it clear that he is only leaving as a free agent and after being paid by Barca for the remaining two years of his contract. This is almost impossible to do because Barca is currently 150 million euros short to be able to meet the Financial Fair Play Law. Braithwaite is one of the contributing factors to Laporta’s failure to register a new squad in La Liga.
Of course, the Danish player’s behavior and handling of the situation was not popular with Barca fans. Therefore, they expressed their feelings by mocking and whistling at him at the Camp Nou before the match against Pumas. But it is worth mentioning that on social media sites, public opinion criticizes the fans of the Catalan “giant” for the cruel treatment of Braithwaite. Someone even parodied the slogan Mes que un Club (More than 1 club) to mock this action of Barca fans.
Anyhow, it is certain that Braithwaite will have to leave Camp Nou in the near future. The only thing that needs to be determined is the way the player leaves and his next destination.
