Beckhams’ legendary beginnings: From humble £150k home to Beckingham Palace’s grandeur

Inside David Beckham and Victoria’s £150,000 first house – Where he began his ‘legend’ career at Manchester United before spending big money on Beckingham Palace.

David, then 22 years old, proudly displayed his detached house on Worsley, Salford’s Hazlehurst Road, which he had paid $170,000 to purchase straight from the developer, during an interview in 1997.

In an archived video from 1997, David Beckham is seen guiding fans around his first house with Victoria.

For £150,000, he bought the four-bedroom house in Worsley, Salford.

A far cry from their present collection of £56,000,000 properties, the Beckhams’ first house was small, with a hole the size of a knee in the hallway wall from a fall David had.

At the time the video was recorded, David was still a rookie at Manchester United and proudly displayed his modest living area, which had trophies stacked on a shelf, a white leather sofa, dark drapes, and a cardboard cutout of himself.

Following his display of his cooker, David let the cameras into his refrigerator to see that, in addition to yogurt and strawberries, within were the Toffee Crisp bars he had been given.

At the time, Becks was just breaking into Manchester United’s starting lineup. He allowed Sky Sports host Rob McCaffery to have a tour of his home.

The football player starts the tour in his living room in the video, which has walls painted in magnolia, cream-colored leather couches, and black drapes.

Notably, David had a life-size cardboard cutout of himself sitting on his VHS cassettes, “that his girlfriend’s [Victoria’s] mum had wanted.”

He also had several trophies on his window sill, along with a framed picture of himself with his father’s 1996–1997 PFA Young Player of the Year title.

Presenter Rob went into the kitchen and found a pack of Walkers crisps with the future bride of David on the front.

“It’s sometimes embarrassing when you want a big bag of Walker’s crisps and you go and get a big bag of Walker’s crisps with your girlfriend on the front,” remarked the sports star, who had only recently begun dating Victoria.

Then he opened his fridge and displayed the Toffee Crisp snacks he’d been brought, strawberries, Muller Corner yogurts, and a couple of bottles of bubbly.

Furthermore, the former hero of the LA Galaxy granted his fans access to his “walk-in wardrobe,” which was made up of a few upright racks hidden in the corner of his master bedroom.

After making fun of David’s current “massive” collection of fifteen pairs of sneakers, the presenter invited him to select his favorite clothes.

The Cribs-style tour happened right before the couple, who made a profit of £40,000 by selling the four-bedroom house for £190,000, moved into their £2.5 million Hertfordshire home, Beckingham Palace.

Even though the video was shot in 1997, David and Victoria quickly moved from their modest lifestyles to their 12-acre estate, known as Beckingham Palace, in 1999, leaving behind their modest ways forever.

In 2008, 48-year-old Victoria told the Manchester Evening News that they had “such fond memories” of their house in Worsley.

She asserted at the time: “David and I drove back to the property on Hazelhurst Road to take a look when we were last in Manchester for the Spice Girls event.

“The Trafford Center and other such locations hold a lot of wonderful memories for us.

“I am aware that David continues to stay in touch with everyone and misses Manchester as well.”

According to the Daily Star, they last listed their Manchester house for sale in 2014 with an asking price of $445,000 to $480,000.

The pair has been residing in their $36.8 million Holland Park residence since 2013.

The couple claims that the 2016 renovations to the six-bedroom Grade II-listed townhouse cost an estimated $9.5 million.

Although their permanent home is in London, David and Victoria divide their time between their $7.2 million Cotswold getaway and their $22 million modern Miami penthouse.

After making a profit of £40,000 on the sale of the house, the couple moved into their £2.5 million mansion in Hertfordshire.

When the living room was last up for sale in 2014, it was showcased.

Rob McCaffery, a presenter on Sky Sports, is shown touring David around his house.

The living area included cream leather seats and walls painted in magnolia.
