Brighton dismiss Romano’s Cucurella transfer news

Reports on Wednesday evening claimed that Chelsea had agreed to sign Manchester City target Marc Cucurella.

Brighton & Hove Albion have denied reports that Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Manchester City target Marc Cucurella, calling the reports ‘inaccurate.’

Cucurella has been a summer target for City, who attempted to sign him after selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal. The Blues, however, refused to increase their valuation of the player from £30 million, while Brighton, who are not under any pressure to sell, refused to lower their £50 million asking price.

The standoff allowed Chelsea to swoop in and sign the left-back, with various media outlets reporting on Wednesday evening that Thomas Tuchel’s side had agreed to buy Cucurella from the Seagulls for £52.5 million. However, the club has issued a statement on their official Twitter account denying the rumors.

It read: “CLUB STATEMENT: MARC CUCURELLA. Contrary to inaccurate reports from numerous media outlets this evening, no agreement has been reached with any club to sell Marc Cucurella.”

The bombshell means time hasn’t run out for City to make another approach for Cucurella if they have a change of heart and decide to meet Brighton’s demands. However, it’s understood City do have a list of options for a new left-back in the event they miss out on the 24-year-old.

Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa is among them. The Croatia international, 24, played 24 times last season, scoring twice and providing nine assists.

Barcelona are getting closer to signing £80m Man City superstar

FC Barcelona are reportedly getting closer to signing Manchester City superstar Bernardo Silva, with Xavi Hernandez eager to bring the Portuguese international to the Camp Nou.

According to Sport, the La Liga giants are optimistic that they can complete a deal to sign the 27-year-old playmaker before Barcelona’s first league game of the season on August 13th, with the latest set of business packages being sold off being used to sign Silva from City.

Previous reports have suggested that the reigning Premier League champions will only sell Silva if they receive an offer of £80 million, a club-record fee for a City player and a transfer that would break the record for the most money generated by any side in the English top flight in a single transfer window.

However, City are keen to keep Silva this summer following his incredible performances for the club last season, which saw the Manchester giants retain the Premier League title and reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

However, according to Sport, Barcelona is a club that Silva is eager to play for, and an offer from the Catalan giants could result in the Portuguese superstar leaving City to join Xavi in La Liga, despite the fact that the European club would suffer financially from making yet another large transfer.

City may also struggle to find a replacement for Silva, and while there have been links to Lucas Paqueta, there’s no denying that finding a player as good as the former AS Monaco superstar would require a monumental effort from Pep Guardiola.

Silva has established himself as arguably the most entertaining player in the Premier League in recent years, and City’s signing of Barcelona’s midfield magician would be nothing short of disastrous for the Manchester club, who will struggle to replace the Portuguese international.

Indeed, with Erling Haaland leading the line for City, Silva is at the ideal club to take his talents to the next level, and the circus that is Barcelona could be the last team the midfielder signs for this summer.
