Zion Williamson gets real about Pelicans’ lethal star trio
Zion Williamson, a forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, has high hopes for his squad this next season. Williamson, CJ McCollum, and Brandon Ingram create a “Big 3” that should help the Pelicans compete in the NBA’s Western Conference in 2023–24.Williamson recently revealed his first impressions of the trio after meeting them at training camp.
As Williamson put it, “you’ve got CJ McCollum, you’ve got Brandon Ingram, and you’ve got myself,” LeagueAlerts reports. All three of us on the court for the first time on the opening day of training camp. As the practice continued,… Like, “Oh man,” I thought. The 2022-23 season ended poorly for the Pelicans when they lost the play-in game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The team has not reached its potential since Zion Williamson has been sidelined by injuries. The Pelicans’ offense and defense both improve significantly when Williamson is on the court.
Williamson missed the entirety of the 2021-22 season, and then again missed a good portion of the 2022-23 campaign with a strange hamstring issue that plagued him for months. The Pelicans are still a formidable opponent when all three of their players are playing together.Williamson clears the оffensive glass, finishes lobs, and creates offense for himself in the post, while Ingram and McCollum both offer three-level scoring to the аttаck.
Williamson’s explosive quickness and freight train-like quality also help the team on the fast break.
At this point, everything hinges on Williamson’s physical condition.
