Chelsea got rid of 5 names after a string of blockbusters

Aside from recruiting rookies, the Blues must also get rid of names who are no longer in their plans

The Stamford Bridge team has completed four transactions to date, including Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Gabriel Slonina. Marc Cucurella has passed his medical and is set to sign a £55 million contract with the Blues. Chelsea is also attempting to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester City.

Aside from adding players, the West London club must also reject names who are not in their plans for next season. Four first-team players have been told to find new jobs, and young talent Levi Colwill has been loaned out.

Despite being highly regarded by the coaching staff, Cowill is still planning to join Brighton next season. Last season, the 19-year-old defender impressed for Huddersfield Town in the Championship. The English star wants to play in the Premier League, but Thomas Tuchel is not ready to commit to Cowill and will let him go to gain more experience.

Billy Gilmour failed to impress while on loan at Norwich City last season. Frank Lampard, a former Chelsea captain, wants to bring the Scottish midfielder to Everton. Todd Boehly, the owner, has also put Gilmour’s name on the purge list.

Kennedy returned to Flamengo in January after a loan spell there. However, with the arrival of Cucurella, the 26-year-old star was forced to leave because he had almost no chance of competing for the left-back position.

Michy Batshuayi has had little opportunity to shine at Stamford Bridge since joining in 2016. The Belgian striker’s current contract expires in 12 months. Selling Batshuayi now will help the Blues make money rather than letting him leave on a free transfer next summer. Wolves and Everton are interested in the 28-year-old striker.

Ross Barkley has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season. However, the return of Conor Gallagher almost eliminated Barkley from the team’s plans for next season. The 28-year-old midfielder could return to his childhood club Everton or join Aston Villa, where he spent the 2020/21 season on loan.

Armando Broja has rejoined Chelsea after a successful loan spell at Southampton last season. The Albania international finished the season with nine goals and one assist in 38 appearances for The Saints across all competitions. Broja was recently announced by the Blues to wear the number 18 jersey, so he will most likely get the chance next season.

So, for Chelsea, as long as they get through the first year of the transition period, everything will return to normal. Above all, Chelsea remains England’s premier club!
