Could Barcelona help Liverpool win the PL title?

Barcelona have reportedly agreed a fee between €50-60M for a leading Premier League player, could this help Liverpool win the PL title?

Their long-term interest in Bernardo Silva may finally be capitalised on following today’s reports.

Manchester City losing one of their key men, who can play a multitude of positions could weaken them this season.

Could the sale of Silva be a major factor in the PL title race? We believe so!

While Silva has always wanted to join Barcelona, Gerard Romero reports that the club has made an offer of around €50-60 million.

However, due to Barcelona’s severe financial problems, the transfer saga is likely to continue.

It will also be a lengthy process given Frenkie de Jong’s situation, in which the club is unsure whether or not he will move on.

According to the Spanish news outlet Sport, the player is willing to take a pay cut to get the deal done.

The title race has been contested in recent years between Liverpool and Manchester City, and this year appears to be no different – despite Liverpool’s opening game draw against Fulham.

City look set to dominate the league once again with the signing of Erling Haaland, but the potential loss of Silva, a key player for them over the last five years, could open the door for Liverpool.

City loses a world-class player who knows the system and the squad and can play on either flank or as a false nine without Silva.

If he is not replaced, City will lose 15-25 goal contributions this season.

That means City will have to rely on players like Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, and Phil Foden to compensate for Silva’s usual contributions.

It may expose them slightly as the season progresses.

Phil Thompson makes David Beckham comparison with Liverpool’s new ‘star’

Fabio Carvalho has clearly impressed Phil Thompson. After his performance against RB Leipzig a few weeks ago, the Liverpool legend gushed about him.

Thompson told LFCTV, “Fabio Carvalho is going to be a star.” “When he gets the ball, there’s something about him. His pitch awareness is nothing short of sensational.”

And now he’s back at it. Thompson appeared on the Off The Ball podcast, where he touted Carvalho as a potential star once more. He even sees a passing resemblance to David Beckham in there.

“I’ve seen enough of him for Fulham but what he brings and what I think Liverpool look at, as much as the goals, are the assists,” he said. “I think they’re big things that people look at. Yes, you can help people with those but you have to have – you go back to David Beckham.

“People go ‘oh he picks people out’ – no he doesn’t. He puts the ball in the right area for strikers and that’s what Carvalho is. He is going to be a star, I can tell you. He’s got so much ability and he will shock everybody.”

Now, obviously, Carvalho doesn’t really play anything like Beckham. He’s not a winger who looks to whip crosses into the box.

But Thompson is correct about the type of playmaking Carvalho desires. He’s fantastic at getting the ball into dangerous areas, and while he does it differently than Beckham, the concept is similar.

That game against Leipzig demonstrated it very well. Jurgen Klopp appears to want his attacking midfielders to consistently get the ball into dangerous areas, where Darwin Nunez thrives.

The all-action striker is strong, fast, and intelligent enough to exploit those gaps with his runs. Carvalho, and others like him, will quickly realize that they only need to find those dangerous areas to rack up assists.
