Official: Damian Lillard requests trade away from Portland Trail Blazers
According to his agency, Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard has asked to be traded from the team that selected him in the first round more than ten years ago.
The Blazers’ star point guard, a seven-time NBA All-Star, is currently searching for a new team to join.
Lillard, 32, has his sights set on a move to South Beach, according to his agent, Aaron Goodwin, who confirmed as much to CNN. Goodwin claims that Lillard wants to join the Miami Heat.
Trail Blazers general manager Joe Cronin issued the following statement to CNN: “We have been clear that we want Dame here but he notified us today he wants out and he’d prefer to play somewhere else,”
Lillard has openly admitted his admiration for the Heat in a Showtime podcast interview from last month.
The former NBA Rookie of the Year said of a prospective trade: “Miami is the obvious one, and Bam [Adebayo] is my dawg, for rҽal.”
Last season’s Finals saw the Heat lose to Nikola Joki and the Denver Nuggets, but they believe Lillard can help them advance further this time around.
The NBA’s competition would shυdder at the thought of Lillard teaming up with Adebayo and Jimmy Butler, the Heat’s premier player, as they will undoubtedly develop into a fearsome big three. “What has not changed for us is that we are committed to winning, and in pursuit of that goal, we are going to do what is best for the team.”
