Darwin Nunez receives ‘special message’ from Van Dijk

Virgil Van Dijk has reminded his new team-mate Darwin Nunez to focus on himself, bring out his best and not think about "what others say".

Darwin Nunez shone in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Manchester City in the 2022 Super Cup. He converted a penalty for Mohamed Salah to make it 2-1 before scoring directly in the final minute to seal the victory for the home team.

Obviously, the most expensive signing in Liverpool history has risen to the occasion. The Uruguayan will be more confident heading into the 2022/23 Premier League season after his last outstanding performance.

“Scoring that goal is important, but for Nunez, and like I said before, the transfer fee is not something you should think about,” said Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk. Nunez succeeded despite the pressure.

Now all he has to do is make the best of his abilities. Work hard and give your all to the club. Nunez, I believe, understood and demonstrated this in the match against Manchester City. Nunez is a striker who prefers to attack in a direct manner. He can get behind the defense quickly and powerfully. That’s something I’ve said before. Darwin, like Haaland, is a modern striker.”

Van Dijk joined Liverpool in 2018 for £75 million, which is now considered a steal considering the Merseyside club’s success has been built on a solid defense.

“For example, Nunez must not look at what people say about him every day,” the Dutchman advised Nunez after he moved in with large sums. He should just concentrate on himself, the team, and improving and settling down as soon as possible.

The only way to do that is to learn from the training sessions, learn from the matches and not look at what others say about you and your performance. For me, that’s the key to success,” the former Southampton player shared.

Will Liverpool let Firmino leave?

Juventus sent Firmino a signal from Italy. Following Dybala’s departure, coach Allegri is looking for a replacement. It’s almost a required task because the old lady’s attack is quite thin at this point, with Moise Kean, Chiesa, and Vlahovic.

Coach Allegri believes Firmino is the best fit. In a 4-3-3 formation, he prefers a versatile striker like Mario Mandzukic, who can play as an attacker, winger, and striker. The Brazilian star is not as tall as Mandzukic, but he is as hardworking as a bee and has a solid physical foundation.

In the next season, the Italian coach sees Vlahovic as the core. However, building a satellite around the Serbian striker is equally important. There, he needed a striker who was mobile or “framed” in any position. This player will play the role of support, connection and even … score goals.

Moise Kean was tested in this role against Barcelona. He had a great game scoring both goals. However, the season is still very long. Relying on an inherently unstable factor like Moise Kean is considered risky.

Before “launching” with Firmino, Allegri looked at two other faces, Arnautovic or Morata. However, the old lady’s obstacle lies in financial problems. They don’t want to splurge on a deal. And when the name Firmino was mentioned, Juventus seemed to find a way out.

Consensus has come from coach Allegri and CEO Arrivabene. The £19 million fee to recruit Firmino is up to £ 17 million cheaper than the amount Atletico Madrid demanded in the Morata case. With this savings, the Bianconeri can close the purchase of Lenadro Paredes from PSG. CEO Arrivabene always calculates very detailed. Morata’s recruitment amount is equal to Firmino and Paredes combined. It was such a bargain he couldn’t help but nod.
