With his Premier League future up in the air heading into the new season, Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is still a potential option for Paris Saint-Germain.
Throughout the summer, United and PSG continued their trade talks, and the English club also tried to sign midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
While his United career appeared to be coming to an end, Sancho shone in last season’s Champions League semi-final against PSG while on loan at Borussia Dortmund.Although PSG is unlikely to be affected, Dortmund was hoping to negotiate Sancho’s permanent return to the club but was priced out of a bid for the England international.
With two years left on his deal at Old Trafford and an additional year’s option, Sancho has already been linked with Ligue 1 winners and has been in transfer talks. Last season, after a loss to Arsenal, the 24-year-old lost his place in United’s first squad after exploding at manager Erik ten Hag over criticism of his training efforts.
Since Sancho insisted he was being used as a “scapegoat,” Ten Hag decided their relationship would be doomed unless he apologized, and he refused to do so.Ten Hag recently stated that Sancho may be used as a striker this season, and since then, the two have reconciled. Sancho has played a significant role in United’s preseason tour of the US.
United would want to add to their roster before August 16th, when they face Fulham in the Premier League season opener, but they will need to sell some players to pay for it.
United have already turned down a £20 million bid from Fulham in an effort to negotiate a higher price for Scotland international Scott McTominay, who has been mentioned as a possible departure.
United are keeping an eye on Ugarte’s situation in Paris, but they are also looking at other possibilities. PSG is demanding more than £50 million, and they have already started negotiations for Youssouf Fofana, a player from Monaco who is also wanted by AC Milan.
Among those who United admires are Burnley’s Sander Berge and Palmeiras’ Richard Rios.
