Jack Sweeney, a student who tracks the billionaire’s planes, said Elon Musk repeatedly let his expensive jet fly a 5-minute flight from Los Angeles International Terminal to Hawthorne Airport.

It is worth mentioning that if using his Tesla electric car, it only takes him about 10-20 minutes to complete this 9.6 km journey.

His current goal is not only to follow them, but also to reveal the huge emissions emitted by these “ultra-short” flights.

Super short flights

In fact, many other stars and celebrities have been caught using private jets for too short a distance to fly.

Rapper Drake was once criticized for using a private jet to get to Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada in just 8 minutes. But the operating cost is about  3,590 USD and costs 5 tons of CO2. If driving a car, the actor only takes about 40 minutes in case the road is empty.

In response to this information, Drake said that the flight was because his staff had to take the plane to another location to help with logistics. “Actually, there was no one on that flight,” he wrote.

The Kim Kardashians have also been spotted taking a plane for 10 minutes to travel a short distance. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift is a celebrity who owns a private plane that emits the highest amount of CO2 into the environment in the year. The female singer’s plane has emitted nearly 8,300 tons of CO2. Even without touring, the Blank Space vocalist still uses a private jet.

The point of blame for these celebrities is that instead of using an airplane, they can completely find a different way of traveling with the same time and more environmentally friendly.

According to Jack Sweeney, celebrities like Kylie, Drake and especially Musk have created emissions equivalent to the average person’s emissions in a year despite repeatedly calling for the community to live green and save fuel. .

“They say one thing and then do another. Of course, they have the right to show off their wealth, but they shouldn’t waste it like that,” the 19-year-old expressed frustration.

Sharing with  Fortune, Sweeney said that the main motivation when he set up celebrity plane tracking accounts was not for the environment.

In fact, these accounts did not initially post information about the estimated CO2 of each flight. He only did this earlier this year because many people wanted to see it.

Sweeney also listed many reasons that forced Musk to travel such a short distance by plane. He said most of his flights are work related rather than just for normal entertainment.

Currently, Musk’s jet tracking account of Jack Sweeney owns nearly 500,000 followers. The boy also caused a stir among netizens when he was actively approached by Elon Musk via Twitter message from the end of last year, even paying  5,000 USD  to request the closure of the @ElonJet account.
