Liverpool’s pursuit of Jude Bellingham has reached its conclusion for the time being with a deal for the youngster ‘impossible’ this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist, the Reds inquired about Bellingham’s availability in June.
Dortmund, on the other hand, responded with a firm no, insisting that Bellingham is ‘untouchable’ this window.
As a result, all indications point to Liverpool deferring their pursuit of a new star midfielder until 2023.
Some Reds fans are concerned about this. Although the Liverpool squad has significant depth in the engine room, some argue that it lacks depth.
Jürgen Klopp’s preferred midfield three of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and Thiago Alcantara is one of the best in the Premier League, but when any of those players is unavailable, the drop in quality is alarming.
Fabinho does not have an obvious understudy; instead, Jordan Henderson fills the pivot role in the middle of the three.
When Henderson is unavailable, Jürgen Klopp has a plethora of options to fill the right-central-midfield role.
He has a choice between Naby Keita, Harvey Elliot, Curtis Jones, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
However, none of those players are true superstars, and there is a noticeable drop in quality in midfield when they are called upon.
And Liverpool simply do not have an engine room with Thiago Alcantara’s profile.
As a result, the Reds have been linked with Matheus Nunes and Florian Neuhaus as players who could potentially replace the Spaniard.
Liverpool would be wise to move for either player.
And, because neither player would be too expensive for the Merseyside club, the transfer would not have to affect the Apotential signing of Jude Bellingham next summer.
Liverpool will be let down. This transfer window is unavailable for Jude Bellingham.
They should not, however, let that disappointment deter them from bringing in engine room reinforcements before the season begins.
Which Midfielder Liverpool Will Go After Next Summer
Romano’s report with Wettfreunde comes after Liverpool’s primary midfield transfer target, Aurelien Tchouameni, joined Real Madrid this summer.
As a result, Bellingham is regarded as a viable alternative. The 18-year-old would give Jürgen Klopp’s engine room some much-needed youth.
Liverpool will not be alone in its pursuit of the teenager. Fabrizio Romano believes Bellingham will be watched by “all top clubs, not just from England.”
As a result, the Reds will need to move quickly next summer if they want to sign their man. They will not want a repeat of the Tchouameni incident.
In terms of the current transfer window, it appears that Liverpool is happy with their midfield options.
Contract talks with Naby Keita have begun, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to remain at the club despite links to a number of potential suitors.
Takumi Minamino is the only midfielder who will be allowed to leave. His £15.5 million move to Monaco is expected to be finalized in the coming days.
Many Liverpool fans, however, are questioning whether Jürgen Klopp is being too lenient in his approach to bringing in a new midfielder.
There is a sizable portion of the Liverpool fanbase that believes the club urgently needs a new signing in that position.
Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, and James Milner are all nearing the end of their careers and will become increasingly untrustworthy as time passes.
Liverpool’s only two young options in that position are Harvey Elliot, who has struggled for form since returning from a broken ankle injury last season, and Fabio Carvalho, who is more of a forward at this stage of his development.
Liverpool fans will be pleased to see references to Jude Bellingham in the media.
He will undoubtedly become one of the world’s best midfielders, and if that means waiting another year, so be it.
However, if the opportunity to throw the bag at Dortmund this summer and sign him a year in advance exists, Liverpool should take it.
