Giorgi Mamardashvili, a goalkeeper from Georgia, was able to sign with Liverpool for $33 million after negotiations with Valencia.
The deal to Liverpool will be finalized this week when Mamardashvili goes for a medical checkup. The owner of Anfield stadium spent roughly $6 million more than the 33 million USD transfer cost to secure the signature of the 23-year-old goalkeeper.
The two clubs have agreed that Mamardashvili would spend one more season on loan with Valencia before making a permanent move to Liverpool in the summer of 2019. This season, Alisson Becker will continue to start in goal for Liverpool, with Caoimhin Kelleher serving as the backup.At Euro 2024, Mamardashvili was a shining star for the Georgian national team, which advanced to the quarterfinals in their maiden tournament debut. Last season, he made 37 appearances for his club and maintained 13 clean sheets in La Liga.
Liverpool is showing that they are thinking forward by signing Mamardashvili. Kelleher will be a free agent in 2026, and Alisson, who is 32 years old, will be a Liverpool player until his contract expires in 2027. Mamardashvili is touted as Alisson’s long-term replacement in the wooden “The Kop” frame.
Four years ago, Dinamo Tbilisi paid Valencia $837,000 to sign Mamardashvili. This time around, the sale of Mamardashvili will yield 10% for the Georgian club. By the end of the 2024–2025 season, Valencia will have pocketed almost $30 million USD. Cenk Ozkacar, a midfielder, is set to be loaned to Valladolid by the Mestalla home team. Prior to the transfer market’s closure this Friday, they are persistently seeking new recruits.
