It seems possible that the news of Alexis Mac Allister’s dismissal was spread too soon.
In the 3-0 drubbing that Argentina and Chile suffered in their qualifying match for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the midfielder was indeed substituted off as a precautionary measure after scoring the first goal. Although head coach Lionel Scaloni had earlier omitted Mac Allister from pre-match training due to a “potential injury concern,” Allister nevertheless earned a spot in the starting lineup and remained there until the 78th minute, when he was substituted off due to apparent pain.
RelatedThankfully, Scaloni confirmed on Sunday that Mac Allister has recovered from his ailment and is back in Argentina’s training program for Tuesday’s encounter against Colombia. There was never any official confirmation of an injury, and it seems that everyone was worried too early.
All is well with the squad; they’re just dealing with the usual post-game aches and pains. In his press conference, Scaloni explained that Alexis Mac Allister exercised with the squad while Nico González worked out independently.
“Our strategy will be determined by how they have changed over the past two days.”
Not that Liverpool fans didn’t have reason to be concerned; after all, we’ve seen our fair share of international player injuries. It would be devastating to lose a key midfielder before Saturday’s match against Nottingham Forest, which the Reds play on September 14.
It seems that isn’t the case, therefore there’s hope that we can still depend on him.
