Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has revealed that he 'tried' Erling Haaland to join the Gunners before the player joined Man City.
After the departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, coach Mikel Arteta rushed to find a new striker for the team. Last month they signed Gabriel Jesus from Man City. Before that, however, there was a time when the Gunners dreamed of Erling Haaland.
Odegaard and Haaland are quite close to each other.
Arsenal captain at the time, Martin Odegaard revealed he used to ‘pull’ his teammate in the Norwegian team. “He’s a great guy, a great player and I think unfortunately for us he would be a great signing for Manchester City,” said Odegaard.
“For sure, he will score many goals. I wish him all the best except against us. It would be nice to see him play in England.”
“When all the Arsenal fans posted a picture of him and me, I sent it to him. I tried (persuaded), but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough… he just laughed,” Odegaard revealed Haaland’s reaction.
As is known, Haaland joined Man City at the beginning of the summer for £ 51 million. They have surpassed many rivals when they are willing to pay a salary of £ 375 thousand / week for the former Dortmund player. With the appearance of Haaland, Pep Guardiola hopes that Man City’s attack problem will have an answer, when owning a true striker.
