On the other hand, he went on the club’s preseason tour of the United States and made his debut in a friendly match against Las Palmas at Anfield, which was played behind closed doors.

“I felt really good, all things considered,” the No. 26 player remarked shortly after playing for 79 minutes in last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Ipswich Town.

It was a crucial period for the club and, later, my nation, and I was playing through discomfort beginning in March.

I needed a little more time since the three weeks off didn’t seem to have resolved anything. In spite of how disappointing it was to not be on the squad, I was able to improve my fitness level incredibly high.

Even though I couldn’t be on the field, I made it a point to be in America for every team meeting, where I could ask the coaches questions and gain knowledge. I was confident that would prepare me to give my all on the field.

We all have a lot to learn because this is a whole new philosophy and style of play. Naturally, it will take some time.

As I neared the finish line, I did experience some regular exhaustion, but overall, I felt great. For the first time in five months, I am pain-free. That’s always a good sign, so I hope it lasts.
