Despite his allegations of unpaid salaries and bonuses, Kylian Mbappe has not been able to secure an injunction compelling his previous club, Paris St Germain, to pay him 55 million euros (£46.5 million).
Instead, the 25-year-old Real Madrid player was ordered to enter mediation with his former team by the French league’s Commission Juridique.
The disagreement dates back to Mbappe’s 2022 contract renewal with PSG. According to club sources, there was an agreement made at the time and repeatedly thereafter that, should Mbappe depart on a free transfer, he would forgo certain financial advantages, such bonuses, as compensation to the club.
Throughout the summer, Mbappe—who officially joined Real on July 1 following the end of his PSG contract—has expressed his belief that the club owes him money, and he has taken the matter to the commission in an attempt to recoup that money.
PSG sees this as a win, but it has now decided that he must reach a settlement through talks with the team, with or without the aid of an impartial mediator.
“Paris St Germain is very pleased with today’s two-hour hearing before the commission,” the team stated in a statement.
“The club remembered that, after being given exceptional benefits by the club over seven wonderful years in Paris, the player has made unambiguous, repeated public and private obligations that must be respected.
“The commission insisted on mediation between the parties, which Paris St. Germain has been requesting for some months, in light of the club’s oral and written reasons. The player has now been invited by the commission to think about the mediation procedure.Mbappe has the option to decline mediation and instead take the case to an employment tribunal, which might take a long time to settle.
Mbappe may be playing for Liverpool right now, according to a Wednesday morning rumor claiming the Reds “agreed a deal” to sign the Frenchman in 2022.
According to the French daily L’Equipe, Mbappe accepted an offer from Liverpool for €200 million (£169 million), with the France international “agreeing” to the transfer.
Antero Henrique, the PSG director at the time, sought €400 million, but Liverpool was unable to meet the record fee for the France international.
