This summer, the Blues can steal Frenkie de Jong from Manchester United
Man Utd has been attempting to deal with Barcelona for more than 70 days. Frenkie de Jong is the top transfer target in the eyes of coach Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils have agreed to pay an upfront cost of €75 million plus an additional €10 million for terms.
The issue is that Barca still owes De Jong’s deferred pay of 17 million euros. Not to mention, despite Barcelona’s desire to forcibly reduce the midfielder’s wage, De Jong also has no plans to leave the Camp Nou.
Man Utd hasn’t given up on this deal, though. Of course, with a month left in the transfer window, United still has chance to grab the midfielder’s services. The Blues appear to be in a stronger position than Manchester United as Chelsea is beginning to show interest in De Jong.
First and foremost, the London team can give any rookie the chance to win the Champions League because they finished third in the Premier League last year. It satisfies De Jong’s request to qualify for the Champions League.
The Reds, on the other hand, are fortunate not to have to play in the Europa Conference League following their defeat on the final day in front of Crystal Palace because they can only compete in the Europa League after finishing sixth last season.
When negotiating with Barcelona, Thomas Tuchel also has more clout than Man United does. It has been observed that Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are of interest to the Catalan giants.
After signing Andreas Christensen on a free transfer, the Spanish team wants to sign the pair. Chelsea may have attached a strategy to deploy more individuals at that point in order to reach the De Jong agreement.
If successful, the 25-year-old would join Chelsea this summer as the team’s third key acquisition after Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.
With Man Utd, they find it extremely challenging to pursue De Jong. The Red Devils were willing to spend £85 million, but they were unable to persuade De Jong to stay at Old Trafford.
De Jong has been a target of Chelsea ever since he switched from Ajax to Barcelona in 2019. Thomas Tuchel, the coach, likes De Jong. Declan Rice is another midfielder that Chelsea is keeping an eye on. West Ham, though, yelled that the England star was worth up to 150 million pounds.
If a good offer comes up this summer, Chelsea is reportedly open to letting Jorginho or N’Golo Kante leave. Coach Tuchel is thinking about deploying rising sensation Conor Gallagher after the midfielder performed admirably while on loan at Crystal Palace last season. Juventus could be a potential place for Jorginho to play again in Serie A. Kante is drawn to MU, though. Tyrell Malacia, a player from Feyenoord, is set to complete the first deal with the “Red Devils.”
In order to get Matthijs de Ligt to Chelsea, Juventus has also begun talks. The Dutch player declared a wish to leave Juventus soon, but the two sides have not yet come to a deal. To replace Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, coach Tuchel needs to recruit a capable center defender.
