Inside Angelina Jolie’s Magnificent Real Estate Portfolio

In many respects, Angelina Jolie is a global citizen. The legendary Hollywood figure has long been involved in international humanitarian endeavors and served as a goodwill representative for the UN Refugee Agency.

She has traveled the world to fight for the rights of families who have been forced to leave their homes in Iraq, Thailand, Sierra Leone, and other countries. She has adopted children from Ethiopia, Vietnam, and Cambodia. In addition, Jolie has held real estate holdings all around the world, including in Cambodia, the birthplace of her son Maddox, and in the south of France, where she and her former partner Brad Pitt once jointly owned Chateau Miraval, a vineyard. In addition, the native Angeleno has owned a few homes dispersed across the United States and a number of noteworthy rental properties that the actress and her family occupied while she and Pitt were filming in places like London and Long Island, New York. We’re giving you a peek inside a few of her most well-known residences here.

When Jolie married Billy Bob Thornton in May 2000, she had already established herself as a well-known figure in Hollywood thanks to the 1999 hit song Girl, Interrupted. A few months later, they paid $3.75 million for an 11,000-square-foot Beverly Hills estate that had been owned by Slash of Guns N’ Roses. At the time, Thornton told Entertainment Weekly, “We’re kind of spontaneous people.” The moment we laid eyes on this house, we decided to take it. The expansive property featured nine bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a library, a gym, a pool, and a tennis court in addition to an in-house recording studio. Thornton claimed that Jolie’s favorite feature was the kitchenette that was located in the bedroom. “You can spend the entire day watching TV [in bed], then stroll three feet to the kitchen,” he stated. Three years into their marriage, Thornton filed for divorce, and he eventually sold the mansion for $8 million almost ten years later.

In 2002, Jolie brought her oldest son, Maddox, home from Cambodia through adoption. The following year, she paid an undisclosed sum to buy a traditional house in a rural area of Cambodia. In addition to providing Maddox with an opportunity to maintain ties to his Cambodian culture, she hoped that the house would serve as a base of operations for her conservation efforts in the area (the same year, she established the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation). According to reports, Jolie also bought the more than 148,000 adjacent acres and preserved them for wildlife. She gave a unique peek into her gorgeous home in 2019 while filming a commercial for Guerlain’s newest scent, Mon Guerlain.Images from the advertisement show a wooden longhouse with a typical straw roof, interiors with wood panels and beams, and an abundance of rattan furnishings. This property is still owned by Jolie.

On the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2004, Jolie reportedly got to know Pitt. A few years later, the couple paid $3.5 million for a property in New Orleans’s French Quarter. (At the time, the couple was concentrated on doing charitable work in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.) The 1830s saw the construction of this typical brick home, which still has many of its original features, such as custom marble mantles, Venetian plaster walls, and crown moldings. The 7,650-square-foot property has a two-story guesthouse, five bedrooms, and three and a half bathrooms. They sold the property for $4.9 million after divorcing in 2016.

Jolie and Pitt moved into an apartment in the storied Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City one year after buying their house in New Orleans. The cost of the unit, which the couple apparently selected because of its strict security, is unknown.According to sources who spoke with ABC News, the Waldorf provided its affluent inhabitants with their own private entrances and elevators, allowing Pitt and Jolie to come and go without having to mingle with other visitors in the main lobby. Given that the hotel was situated next to the UN, where Jolie was then a goodwill ambassador, the location was also perfect.

Jolie and Pitt rented The Sassafras, a 47-acre waterfront mansion in Long Island, for an undisclosed sum per month while Jolie was filming her 2010 spy thriller Salt. (For context, in 2017 the rental was listed for $55 million.) The massive Tudor Revival estate had a formal dining room, a great hall, an enclosed outside dining veranda, and a 20,000-square-foot main house with 25 rooms and a 48-foot cathedral ceiling in the doorway. In addition, there were two guesthouses on the property, a log cabin “tea house” with views of the water, a barbershop, a spa, and a fallout shelter. According to the listing, the couple and their kids had immediate sound access, as well as a pier large enough to dock an 80-foot yacht, a 24-foot sailboat, a 30-foot speedboat, and more.

FRANCE-WINE-MIRAVAL-PEOPLE

Pitt and Jolie set their sights on the iconic Chateau Miraval in Correns, France, which will be their next residence. Before spending an estimated $60 million buying the chateau and winery—the latter of which they used to launch their own wine brand—the couple first rented the opulent estate. Pitt is said to have renovated portions of the 17th-century property, adding a spa, gym, home theater, indoor and outdoor pools, video game room, dirt bike course, and even a helicopter pad. The couple was married on the property in 2014. It is said that in 2010, Jolie had a 200-year-old olive tree moved to the 1,200-acre estate. After the couple filed for divorce in 2016, Jolie sold her interest in the business, which sourdened the relationship and sparked a current legal battle between them. Pitt, who is still the owner of this home, restored a recording studio on the property in 2021 with the help of French producer Damien Quintard.

The whole Jolie-Pitt family lived in a $21,000-per-month property in Surrey, a little town outside of London, while Pitt was filming his zombie smash War Machine, shortly before Jolie and Pitt’s marriage collapsed. The eight-bedroom mansion overlooked the River Thames and included an indoor pool, a gymnasium, and a snooker room (a game akin to billiards). Furthermore, it was believed that Pitt’s close friend George Clooney’s nine-bedroom house was only a short 35-minute boat ride away from the three-acre estate. “[The family likes] that there are toy shops in town and that it’s not far from central London,” a source said to Us Weekly at the time. It also exudes a serene, leafy suburban atmosphere.

Pitt had shot parts for Allied in a villa on the Spanish island of Majorca, which the couple reportedly bought $2.8 million for in June of that same year. There were eight beds in this warm-weather retreat, which also supposedly had a swimming pool with views of the Balearic Sea. Whether either of them still owns this house is unknown.

Soon after Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt later in 2016, it was reported that she started paying $30,000 a month to rent a house in Hidden Hills, California. Denise Richards, the owner, listed the house in January of that year for $7.3 million. It had eight,300 square feet, six bedrooms, and six full and two half bathrooms. Jolie and her six kids remained there for an undisclosed period of time, perhaps making use of the campfire grotto and lagoon-style pool with several waterfalls.

2017

The following year, Jolie made news when she paid $24.5 million to purchase a lavish Los Feliz compound that had been the property of renowned actor Cecil B. DeMille. “It has to be near their father, who lives five minutes away,” Jolie stated in an interview with British Vogue in March 2021. “What I like best is that there are lots of walkways and spaces to stroll and reflect instead of an entertainment area. We are really lucky to have that right now. The Beaux Arts mansion, spanning 11,000 square feet, includes six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and a swimming pool. Jolie also mentioned that the property has a trampoline, which is a much-needed stress release during trying times. “The kids told us not to do that the other day when we were on the trampoline. You’ll do yourself harm. God, isn’t that funny, I thought to myself. I used to be an action star, but now the kids are warning me to stop jumping on the trampoline because I might damage myself. Jolie still resides here as her primary home.

Celebrity Sightings In New York – August 20, 2023

In the summer of 2023, Angelina Jolie announced the launch of Atelier Jolie, a new business endeavor that would be housed in an old Andy Warhol studio that was rented by renowned street artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. The 6,600-square-foot building, which is most recognized for its graffitied storefront and history of drawing renowned creatives, is purportedly owned by the actor for eight years. “[Jolie] cherished the building’s facade and how it was decorated with street art as a tribute to Basquiat,” director Garrett Kelly of Meridian Capital Group, the company that owned the property, according to ArtNews. The area will function as a socially aware fashion studio with a planned gallery and café run in collaboration with refugee organizations, providing a place of employment for marginalized tailors and artisans. It’s also possible that Jolie, who was sighted in July touring apartment buildings with her children Pax and Zahara, will be searching for a more permanent residence in New York City to help realize her dream.
