The Goodison Park home team fell short to Chelsea in the Premier League 2022-23 opener
Everton fell to Chelsea 0-1 at home in the first match of the 2022/23 season. The Toffees, on the other hand, have nothing to be ashamed of after playing a tough game. Unfortunate injury situations cost Frank Lampard a number of players even before the game began, and Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina had to limp off the field.
Furthermore, despite the absence of strikers Dominic Calvert-Lewin (injured, 6 weeks out) and Salomon Rondon (suspended), Everton defended well when blocking the line. Chelsea has been attacked numerous times.
“It was a good performance,” coach Frank Lampard said after the game. We didn’t deserve to lose, in my opinion. Given the opportunities we created, I believe we deserved the draw. We had a lapse in concentration when we awarded the opponent a penalty. From start to finish, there is a lot of energy and defensive structure.
We had three or four chances, and on another day, we could have scored on one of them and not lost the game. I believe the players performed admirably on offense, and their mobility made the opponent’s job difficult. When we played without the striker, we played very well, but we lacked a bit of sharpness.”
Tuchel analyzes Cucurella’s debut.
The Chelsea rookies performed admirably in the win over Everton. Coach Thomas Tuchel named Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly to the starting lineup from the start.
In the second half, defender Marc Cucurella came on as a substitute. Tuchel said of the Spaniard’s performance to BBC Sport: “Cucurella played well throughout his 20 minutes on the field. He’s certain to keep the ball, and he’s astute in his ability to avoid pressing.”
Cucurella is the Blues’ summer blockbuster signing. The Spanish full-back arrived at Stamford Bridge with a six-year contract worth more than £60 million.
Cucurella joins Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Gabriel Slonina, and Carney Chukwuemeka as Chelsea’s fifth summer signing. The Blues will almost certainly continue to sign more rookies during the remainder of the 2022 summer transfer window.
“Not only do rookies bring new energy, new ideas, and new ways of thinking, but they also play in new roles. Yes, Chelsea wants to bring in more young players. Let’s wait and see if that scenario comes true” Tuchel admits that more recruits could be brought in.
According to numerous credible sources, Chelsea will play all of the time in the Wesley Fofana deal. Frenkie de Jong and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are two other possible Blues targets.
