Have you seen the photos of the legendary basketball player LeBron James allegedly attending the premiere of the newest Barbie movie wearing a pink outfit? They were shared on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter this week, and they quickly went viral. But they are completely phony.
The images are sometimes titled “LeBron James on the Barbie Movie” and occasionally feature accessories like a pink pocketbook. In one of the pictures, James is also seen sporting a pink skirt; however, the hue is slightly off, giving it the appearance of beige.
These images are artificial intelligence (AI) creations, created with the aid of MidJourney or DALL-E, notwithstanding the intricacies of hue. It is presently unknown what AI program was utilized to produce the phony James pictures that are popular on social media.
One of the phony images has over 260,000 views on Facebook alone, and the political claim-verification organization Politifact has taken notice of it. Some of the fake pictures of James, according to Politifact, include fingers that are excessively oversized and even “alien-like.” We continue to see that in viral fake photos, artificial intelligence (AI) still struggles to simulate fingers that look natural.
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling feature in Greta Gerwig’s latest film, which both celebrates Barbie and offers a critical look at the popular toy’s background. At the box office, the film has already brought in a whopping $200 million for Warner Bros.
