According to rumors, Liverpool are looking to hijack Brighton’s transfer move for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.
Colwill, 20, sprang to prominence as a crucial component of England’s under-21 team, which won the Euros on Saturday.
However, he has never played for Chelsea, having spent the previous two seasons on loan at Huddersfield and Brighton.
And, despite suggestions that he is desired by Liverpool, he may be reticent to stay at Stamford Bridge next season.
Colwill then moved on to Brighton & Hove Albion, where he helped the Seagulls finish sixth last season.
This summer, his defence shone as England’s under-21 team did not concede a single goal during the Euros.
According to sources, the defender’s heroics prompted Brighton to make a $ 30 million approach, which was rejected by Chelsea.
Chelsea is having a busy summer of signings after finishing 12th last season, but Colwill is not one of them.
Mauricio Pochettino, the Blues’ new manager, is attempting to revitalize the club and has stated that Colwill will be a part of the club’s future.
However, talkSPORT reports that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has his sights set on the defender after already signing Alexis MacAllister and Domink Szoboszlai this summer.
The Reds are willing to offer a deal against Brighton’s because of his outstanding performance on the south coast last season.
Meanwhile, Brighton captain Lewis Dunk has agreed to a three-year extension with The Amex.
Dunk, 31, made his League One debut for the Seagulls almost 13 years ago and will captain them into the Europa League this season under Roberto De Zerbi.
The defender has become an important member of the Italian team, with De Zerbi praising his passing abilities.
Dunk had a fantastic season under the former Sassuolo manager, gaining a recall to the England squad in June despite having to withdraw due to injury.
“Long live the captain!” shouted De Zerbi.
“I’m overjoyed that he’s signed this new contract.” It’s fantastic news for Lewis and the club.”
