Fabrizio Romano says LFC are in “preliminary negotiations” to agree deal worth over £33.8M for “outstanding player”
Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool are in “preliminary negotiations” to agree a contract extension that could worth over £33.8M fto Naby Keita.
The Guinean is a gifted player who has shone for Liverpool, but his injury record has been a source of concern.
Last season, he demonstrated that his injury issues are behind him with significantly improved availability.
At 27, he is in his prime as a midfielder, and with Liverpool looking to time him down, he could stay until 2027, when he will be 32.
According to Fabrizio Romano, “Naby Keita could be one of the next players to sign a new contract at Liverpool.”
“Preliminary talks have taken place with his representatives, but they are not yet at the final stage.”
“After bringing in Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, Jota was a priority.” Liverpool wanted to reassure him that he was still an important member of the squad.”
While injuries have robbed him of some of the speed he displayed with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, he is still a fantastically technically gifted footballer.
There’s no reason why he can’t continue to be a valuable member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad as the advanced no.8 in the German’s 4-2-4 formation.
With Liverpool at the pinnacle of their powers once again, challenging for a quadruple last season, it’s encouraging to see the Reds continue to sign key players to secure their chances of competing for many years to come.
Diogo Jota is the latest player to sign a new contract after Mohamed Salah ended over a year of speculation by signing a new five-year, three-year deal.
With reported weekly earnings of £350,000, he stands to earn more than £54M. That is the reported asking price for Liverpool target Benjamin Sesko.
Keita could earn a lot more than £33.8 million if he signs a new five-year contract. That is only based on his current weekly salary of £130,000, as he will almost certainly be paid more to stay at Anfield.
Klopp adores the midfielder and has been far more patient with his injuries than fans have been. Klopp’s patience reflects his belief in his abilities, and the German stated that he has earned his place at the club.
In October of last year, the manager stated that Keita was “flying” after starring in an incredible 5-0 win over Manchester United, in which he scored and assisted.
Klopp said via Liverpoolfc.com: “Naby is in a great moment.
“Naby is an outstanding player and we spoke about it, about the game at Atletico.
“He played outstandingly well until he made the mistake around the goal of Atletico after the set-piece and that obviously shattered him a little bit, and that should not happen obviously, that is clear.
“But in such an atmosphere, against such an opponent, all of a sudden when you’re thinking about different things then it can happen.
“But it was clear we would start him again because he is in really good shape and yeah, he proved us right.”
