‘Liverpool won’t finish in the top 4 this season’, former EPL star talks about Mane departure

William Gallas claims Liverpool WON'T finish in the top four this season after losing Sadio Mane.

Liverpool has achieved a top-four finish in each of the previous six seasons under Jurgen Klopp. Last season, Liverpool finished just one point behind Premier League champions Manchester City.

The Reds, though, are off to a shaky start this year, drawing 2-2 away at newly promoted Fulham in their first match.

Without Sadio Mane, who moved to Bayern Munich in a £35 million deal earlier this summer, Gallas anticipates that Liverpool will struggle this season and that they will finish outside the top four for the first time since the 2015–16 season.

Speaking on behalf of Genting Casino, Gallas said, “As an ex-London player, I have to choose Chelsea, Arsenal, or Tottenham to win the Premier League.”

Because they are without Sadio Mane and [Luis] Diaz does not have the same impact, Liverpool may not make the top four.

“Liverpool consistently gives up goals, as we saw against Fulham. Even though I enjoy seeing Liverpool play, I predict City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham to win.

Two of Gallas’ former Premier League teams will face off on Sunday, with Chelsea hosting London rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

In their first game of the new season, Spurs destroyed Southampton 4-1, while Chelsea labored to a 1-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.

But Gallas anticipates a draw in this weekend’s game.

It will be very close, he predicted.

The only issue with Chelsea is that they don’t have a real striker, which might be problematic for Chelsea as it makes it harder for them to score goals or generate chances. Tottenham seem nice and have good players.

“That’s why I think that game will be really close; I’m going with a draw.”

After nearly losing out on the Champions League spots in the 2021–22 season, Gallas feels Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, might be fired if he cannot lead the Gunners to a top-four finish this year.

If they don’t place in the top four, “of course he will be in great danger,” Gallas continued.

“Arteta was asked to finish in the top four, but he didn’t last year. It would be rather dramatic if Arsenal did not participate in the Champions League the following season.

“They recently purchased new players; now Arteta and the players are in charge. If they fail to complete their tasks in order to qualify for the Champions League, it will be a significant issue for them all.”
