Man City could sign Italian maestro in three-way deal

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have been linked with a sensational bid to sign PSG's Marco Verratti.

According to a Spanish journalist, Manchester City could be part of a sensational three-way deal to sign PSG midfielder Marco Verratti.

The Blues are currently concerned about Bernardo Silva’s future, with no word on whether the 27-year-old will remain at the Etihad Stadium this summer. Pep Guardiola reiterated last week that unhappy players are free to leave the club, but an acceptable offer must be presented.

Barcelona has been heavily linked with his signature, but the Catalan giants are deeply in debt and are struggling to register players they signed earlier this summer.

They have a long-standing interest in Silva, but any agreement could be contingent on a number of other negotiations. According to Gerard Romero, Frenkie de Jong’s proposed transfer to PSG may prompt City to pursue Italian midfielder Marco Verratti.

“There is a rumour circulating among some player agents, and it is that there may be a transfer activity involving three teams: 1) Frenkie de Jong to PSG, 2) Marco Verratti to Manchester City, and 3) Bernardo Silva to Barcelona,” he said on his daily transfer livestream.

The diminutive midfielder has maintained elite levels of performance for the French champions after winning the European Championships with his native Italy. If City sign him and de Jong’s high wages are removed from Barça’s budget, a move for Silva becomes possible.

With only three weeks left in the summer window, all three deals would require a massive effort and are unlikely to be completed in such a short period of time.

There’s also some transfer nostalgia for City fans, who were interested in signing Isco just THREE years ago.

Every transfer window, the Spaniard seemed to be linked with City, and he was even jokingly pictured wearing a Sky Blue jersey on a beach one summer. However, for one reason or another, the move never happened.

Isco was on Guardiola’s list at City more than three years ago, according to Fabrizio Romano. The club considered a deal, but Isco was untouchable for Real Madrid at the time.

Some things just don’t seem to work out…
