Man United's Premier League campaign under Erik ten Hag has been a disaster and following the loss to Brighton, the Old Trafford team revealed a slew of issues
Man United have had a disappointing start to Erik ten Hag’s reign in the Premier League. After 90 minutes, Harry Maguire and his teammates were defeated 1-2 by Brighton. Pascal Groß’s double goal gave Brighton three valuable points.
Meanwhile, before the tight play, Manchester United’s attack was quiet, unafraid of collisions with Brighton’s defensive players. Alexis MacAllister’s own goal was the only goal for the Red Devils.
Captain Maguire criticized the entire Manchester United team in an interview following the game: “The worst thing is losing 0-2 after the first half. We got off to a good start in the game. Giving up the first goal exacerbated the situation. At that point, the game was over. We gave up too much ground after the first goal. It was a nightmare beginning.”
Man United’s stars have exhibited a competitive spirit. The opportunity was rekindled after Alexis Mac Allister’s own goal. However, the Red Devils’ attack struggled for 90 minutes.
Star Marcus Rashford squandered at least two golden opportunities in front of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Ten Hag’s launch of Cristiano Ronaldo in the 53rd minute could not salvage the situation. Man United will travel to Brentford’s home ground in the Premier League’s second round.
Scholes ‘destroyed’ two Manchester United players.
Erik ten Hag had a nightmare match as Manchester United were defeated 1-2 by Brighton at Old Trafford. Pascal Gross scored twice in the first nine minutes. Despite Alexis Mac Allister’s own goal, United were unable to recover after the break.
It was Brighton’s first ever win at the Theater of Dreams, and it marked a rocky start for Man Utd under Ten Hag.
Paul Scholes slammed Manchester United’s first-half performance and singled out midfielders Scott McTominay and Fred.
“A shocking start for United,” Scholes said. The first half was terrible. From the first minute, it was clear that something bad was going to happen. McTominay was constantly attempting to run with the ball, which was ridiculous. The pitch’s quality in the middle is extremely low.
McTominay, thankfully, did not receive a red card. The midfield quality is lacking, but we’ve seen that with Fred and McTominay in recent years.
Ten Hag will only arrange for one of these two players to play high, but both do. Fred consistently loses the ball, and McTominay attempts to run after it but also loses it.
It is not difficult to pass the ball to the best teammates on the field. But what the duo did was nothing short of a crime.”
