Man Utd immediately plans to find a ‘successor’ to replace David de Gea

In an effort to strengthen his goalkeeping staff this summer, Erik ten Hag of Manchester United is interested in signing Anderlecht stopper Bart Verbruggen.

The Dutch youth international has emerged as a prospective target, and the Red Devils may be about to recruit another goalkeeper at the end of the current campaign. Although United and David de Gea are negotiating a new contract, Ten Hag may decide to hunt for a long-term replacement since de Gea’s deal expires in the summer.

De Gea, 32, has spent 12 seasons at Old Trafford after moving there for £18.9 million in 2011 from Atletico Madrid. The United No. 1 received recognition earlier this month after surpassing the club’s previous high for consecutive clean sheets. He has already played in 528 games and kept 183 shutouts.

But, Ten Hag is prepared to add another goalkeeper to his lineup because Jack Butland, his backup, is anticipated to return to Crystal Palace when his loan period expires in June. The United manager is interested in acquiring Verbruggen during the summer transfer window, according to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

Since the World Cup, the 20-year-old has established himself as Anderlecht’s first-choice goalkeeper and has produced a number of outstanding displays for the Belgian team. With a superb performance for Anderlecht against Villarreal and a clean sheet, Verbruggen ensured that they advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Conference League.

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Anderlecht won 1-0 on Thursday night in Spain. The Purple and White will now play AZ Alkmaar in the round of eight. Verbruggen has a fantastic opportunity to put himself through a demanding situation, which United has become accustomed to this season.

Yet Jack Butland, his backup, is expected to return to Crystal Palace when his loan stint expires in June, thus Ten Hag is prepared to add another goalkeeper to his lineup. According to the Belgian publication Het Laatste Nieuws, the United manager wants to sign Verbruggen during the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old has become Anderlecht’s first-choice goalkeeper since the World Cup and has put up a number of standout performances for the Belgian squad. Verbruggen made sure Anderlecht advanced to the European Conference League quarterfinals with an outstanding performance against Villarreal and a clean sheet.

Anderlecht won 1-0 on Thursday night in Spain after the teams tied 1-1 in the first leg. In the round of eight, the Purple and White will now take against AZ Alkmaar. It’s a great chance for Verbruggen to test himself in a challenging scenario that United has grown accustomed to this season.

United are also keeping an eye out for a new goalie with David de Gea in the final 18 months of his contract.

And according to Sport1 they could make a summer move for Kobel.

However the report adds Chelsea have held a meeting with the player’s representatives over a potential switch.

Kobel, 26, still has three years remaining on his contract so Dortmund could demand a huge fee to let him leave.

The Swiss has impressed since joining from Koln in 2021 and has kept eight clean sheets in 18 games this season.

Kobel has also committed his future to the club after speculation linked him with a move to Bayern Munich in December.

He said: “I did not hear those stories and that’s not of interest to me either.

“I play for Borussia Dortmund and we have big plans with BVB. That’s all I care about.”

United have also been linked with Leeds shot-stopper Illan Meslier, who could be available for a bargain price if the Whites are relegated.

Sevilla star Bono is also believed to be of interest but he could cost £45million.
