“I saw him play against my father. And he scored, so that wasn’t really that good. But everyone knows him, his qualities and the goals he scored. I am a young striker and as a twenty-year-old I get the chance to work with him. That is fantastic, unique and something special.”
And what a player to emulate. Van Nistelrooy wrecked havoc in the Premier League over his five seasons, scoring 95 goals in just 150 games. He was the prototypical No.9, the type of player his father club desperately needed.
The next few months will be crucial for Silva as he hones his art under the tutelage of a player who knows exactly what it takes to prosper in the English top flight. As the Wolves forward himself noted, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that he must seize.
Those who dismiss the Portuguese young international may be forced to eat their words. Wolves believe he is still in their plans for the future, and after all, a certain Harry Kane played only six times in his first season as a 20-year-old and everything worked out just fine for him.
