Mason Mount made his Manchester United debut in Wednesday’s 2-0 triumph over old rivals Leeds, and after the game, Erik ten Hag called him “the complete midfielder.” The game was played in wet Oslo.
Mount, who joined United for £60 million from Chelsea and played 45 minutes at the Ullevaal Stadion, provided the kind of energy that Ten Hag believes has been missing from United’s midfield.
United’s young leader, the 24-year-old dispossessed Jeremiah Mullen and then set up a 40-yard chi Mount was also instrumental in launching United’s chances from deep, creating the greatest opportunity of the first half with a superb ball to Amad Diallo.
Ten Hag made eleven substitutions at halftime, and it was the youthful gᴜns (Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill) who broke through for a diverse Leeds side. Mount, though, was more than pleased with his debut in a United jersey, saying, “I really liked the role I was in today.” Having the freedom to drop in and help create the play from a deeper position while yet being allowed to make runs into the box and participate in more attacks.
To give the other team something to worry about and set the tone for our own attacking thrҽat and rhythm, “I like to start off the press.”
Ten Hag was pleased with Mount’s contribution and said, “We expected him to be comfortable.” We have seen his work and know that he will be an asset to our team.
I believe you have seen today some of the benefits he can provide. He’s a well-rounded midfielder who would excel at Manchester United and help us get where we want to go.
It is said that United has not ruled out keeping Dean Henderson as their No. 1 goalkeeper for the upcoming season if the two clubs are unable to come to an agreement on a transfer fee.
After spending last year on loan at the City Ground, Henderson has been linked to a £20 million transfer to Nottingham Forest.
When asked if he is still a possibility, Ten Hag said, “Of sure. I stuck with him for the duration of the season. The goalkeeper position is crucial, but I am satisfied with our current roster.
