Marcus Rashford MBE is the man of the moment because he won the fιght to give free school lunch vouchers to about 1.3 million English children this summer. It was a personal gain for the 23-year-old, who got free school meals when he was growing up in Wythenshawe, Manchester.
He was praised for his campaign, which made the government change its mind about extending the program. Because of his campaigning work, the player was given an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list and was recognized at both the Best Fifa Football Awards and the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year awards.
Who are his parents?
Robert and Melanie Rashford have a boy named Marcus. He is very close to his mother, who used to work as a cashier. After he won, he gave a moving speech about Melanie. Piers Morgan said, “Congratulations, Marcus. This is the best win you’ve ever had. Your mother must be so happy for you.” Marcus said, “This is her moment.” His tweet had a red heart next to it.
Marcus has said before that his mom forced him to move to Manchester United’s academy a year early so that he wouldn’t have to grow up in a poor home. He told BBC Breakfast, “The program I started at age 11 is supposed to be started at age 12.”
It basically gives you a place to live closer to where you learn and where your new school is.She worked hard to move it forward because she knew it was the next step for me. I had to eat the right things and hang out with my coworkers and new school friends.
“She made that choice when I was 11, and United let her do it. That’s why I ended up going earlier than the other kids.
“I did it to help my mom with her problem and get myself out of the trouble I was in.” The football player said he remembered being hungry when he was young, but he knew it wasn’t his family’s fault.
Again talking about his childhood, this time for his new BBC documentary Marcus Rashford: Feeding Britain’s Children, the player said, “There were times when there wasn’t any food, so you’d just go to sleep. My closest friends and family knew what was going on with me and my family, but my teammates and teachers did not.
When Marcus was nine, his family moved to the Northern Moor estate in Wythenshawe, which is where the famous Channel 4 show Shameless was shot. As a way of saying thank you to his mother for raising him right, he hired an £800,000 home for her in 2016. Marcus has a five-bedroom luxury home in Wilmslow that he bought in 2019 for £1.2 million.
Does he have any siblings?
Marcus has two brothers named Dwaine Maynard and Dane Rashford. They started their own agency and now manage the star. Last year, his half-sister Tamara, whose father he shares, made it to the finals of Miss England.
She works as a marketing and communications assistant. She got a First in International Event Management from the University of Salford and spends a lot of time helping charities.
Who is his girlfriend?
Marcus may be dating Lucia Loi, a 22-year-old PR account assistant who works for the Manchester-based PR firm Sugar. The couple likes to keep their relationship out of the press. Marcus has been a regular player for Manchester United since 2016. He is thought to be one of the best young players in England. Marcus got a new deal with Manchester United in 2019 that was said to be worth £200,000 a week. This deal lasts until 2023, and before anything else is taken into account, his pay is over £10 million a year.
