Man United have targeted a number of stars for the summer transfer window of 2022, but there has yet to be a true "blockbuster" contract at Old Trafford
And they may have a blockbuster in the near future, but in the opposite direction, with the signing of Marcus Rashford from Paris Saint-Germain. If the rich French team wants to bring the British star to the Park of the Princes, they will have to spend a lot of money.
Rashford is only 24 years old and has one year left on his current contract at Manchester United. Man United, on the other hand, has a clause that allows them to trigger a one-year extension. As a result, the Red Devils are unlikely to lose him on a free transfer next summer. Of course, they still have the option to terminate Rashford’s contract in June 2023.
Man United are clearly in a strong position, allowing them to counter PSG’s approaches. They can also request a large transfer fee for a player who is out of form. Rashford is worth 54 million pounds, according to Transfermarkt.
PSG’s interest in Rashford is understandable given that Arnaud Kalimuendo has just completed a move to Rennes and Mauro Icardi is looking to leave. The Paris-based club is said to have made contact with Rashford’s representatives, with negotiations progressing ‘positively.’
PSG coach Christophe Galtier has stated that the club wants to sign a new striker this month.
“We’re looking for another striker,” Galtier told reporters. “We need a new player because we have a full schedule. The club is operational, and I have direct contact with Luis Campos. Luis has spoken with our president directly. We must refrain from committing any crime. any blunder”
Rashford has established himself as one of Europe’s best young strikers, scoring 43 goals for Manchester United between August 2019 and May 2021. However, he struggled with form last season, scoring only 5 goals and losing his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
Rashford, according to Jamie Redknapp, should leave Old Trafford to restart his long career: “This is a young man who, in my opinion, needs to go and discover something new.”
Going to PSG and earning a high salary while competing in the Champions League may entice Rashford. Not only that, but he’ll be playing alongside the world’s best attacking players, including Neymar, Lionel Messi, and, in particular, Kylian Mbappe, with whom Rashford has a close relationship.
The Red Devils’ current attack is quite thin, so even if a big offer comes in, they are unlikely to let Rashford leave this summer. Manchester United have the option to extend his contract until 2024, which can be exercised at any time. This will strengthen the Old Trafford team’s negotiating position.
