Following Uruguay’s victory over Colombia on Friday night, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz seemed to have a brief argument, but it was quickly set aside.
Both Liverpool players scored two goals during a dramatic and protracted stoppage time in what ended up being a crazy 2026 World Cup qualifying match in Montevideo.
As the clock went beyond the 100-minute mark, Manuel Ugarte scored the game-winning goal, giving the visitors the impression that they had won a late point in the 96th minute.
Diaz and Nunez quarrel but soon reconcile. Strong words were exchanged on the field between the two teams, even though the post-match scenes weren’t as tumultuous as those that followed their Copa America semi-final in July.
In fact, television cameras recorded what seemed to be Nunez and Diaz (who captained Colombia) arguing, their emotions clearly and understandably running high following such an amazing game-ending.But any animosity between the Liverpool pair was soon forgotten when they were spotted cuddling up to each other a short while after.
Nunez and Diaz were thought to be best friends. Once Nunez and Diaz were seen hugging shortly after the full-time whistle, it was evident that any apparent flashpoint could be labeled as “heat of the moment.” It was not surprising that the cameras focused on the apparent argument between the two players.
The South American duo is actually the best of friends on Merseyside, according to Colombian publication Bolavip, and not even the intense heat of World Cup qualification could permanently destroy their bond.
They will have long since forgotten any post-match arguments in Montevideo when they return to Liverpool later this week, by which time they will have played another match against their respective nations. Instead, they will be entirely focused on preserving the strong position the Reds have earned themselves this season.
