Real Madrid is ready to conquer the ‘sixth’

With three consecutive Champions League victories, Real Madrid has achieved the unimaginable. But Los Blancos still owes something to the past. That is equivalent to the feat of winning the "sixth" that Barcelona accomplished in Pep Guardiola's first season as coach.

The only European team to win all six titles in a single year is still Pep’s Barcelona. The Catalans won the Spanish Super Cup, the European Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup in addition to La Liga, the Champions League, and the King’s Cup in the 2008–09 season. Real Madrid has set its sights on this legendary “El Sextete.”

That is obviously not a simple task. The challenge for next season is enormous, despite the fact that coach Massimiliano Allegri already said “Real Madrid is the greatest club in Europe” after Juventus fell to Los Blancos 0-2 in a friendly match in Pasadena. It will happen in La Liga, where Barcelona is always evolving. Additionally, there is Europe, where PSG, Bayern Munich, Man City, and Liverpool are all displaying a striking new appearance.

However, Real Madrid did not stand still. The Bernabeu team has just undergone an effective pre-season tour in the US. The Madridians have enjoyed economic success, as their three friendlies against Barca, America and Juventus attracted 195,631 spectators. In addition, these three matches also help coach Carlo Ancelotti dispel worries.

Because Real Madrid’s players have stepped out of the “summer break” to really get into the game, and even regain the fighting spirit like when they won the 14th Champions League/Champions League title last season. Despite the rather heavy curriculum of fitness coach Antonio Pintus with two training sessions per day, the team also only had one injury case of Dani Carvajal. In addition, two rookies Antonio Ruediger and Aurelien Tchouameni also initially found harmony with their new teammates.

Additionally, each game was set up so that the players could rapidly get into the game’s flow under Coach Ancelotti. The El Clasico match versus Barca in the US in especially has the impact of “waking up,” and the outcome is not that crucial. Karim Benzema made his comeback in the friendly game against America. And the matchup with Juventus was regarded as a legitimate contest.

That is why in Pasadena, coach Ancelotti has launched a squad with 11 names who are also the main players in the Champions League final against Liverpool two months earlier. But winning the friendly match against the Italian team is not the final goal of Carletto. Because throughout the tour in the US, he also constantly gave experiments.

The appearance of rookie Rudiger at left-back in the Classic match against Barca is an example. In the midfield, the “Bermuda triangle” including Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Luka Modric is no longer the only option. Because when needed, Real Madrid can switch to using a powerful midfield trio of Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde.

The way Real Madrid plays has also changed significantly, and they are now prepared to achieve “El Sextete.” starting with Frankfurt’s encounter against the European Super Cup on August 10. The battle to retain the La Liga throne, the Champions League, win the King’s Cup, and finally win the FIFA Club World Cup and the Spanish Super Cup follows. Although FIFA is aiming to tweak the structure and expand the number of participating teams, the exact date of the final competition remains uncertain.
