Real Madrid ‘trying’ to sign 2024 European Championship victor

Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo were among the midfielders the Reds added to their roster last summer.

A top-tier operator to play in the number six position is still something the Reds are hoping to get as they seek to strengthen their engine room.

In preparation for possible trade talks with Real Sociedad, the Merseyside club added Zubimendi to their list of midfield targets.Florian Plettenberg of the Journalist Association reports that Liverpool are ‘pushing’ to sign the winner of Euro 2024 and have entered into negotiations with the Basque side.

It is presently unknown if Real Sociedad is requesting Zubimendi’s €60 million (£51.5 million) release clause or if they are prepared to negotiate a fee with Liverpool, according to the update.

Even though he had a lot of interest this summer, Zubimendi has already said that he is content to stay at Real Sociedad.

Nevertheless, there have been reports stating that the Spain international is eager to begin playing for Arne Slot’s team immediately.Zubimendi has been linked to several clubs this summer, including Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona, however Liverpool’s pursuit has intensified.

Though Xabi Alonso now manages Bayer Leverkusen, the player has ties to Liverpool and played for the Reds in the past. This gives Liverpool a possible advantage.

Liverpool may have an advantage in their pursuit of the midfielder this summer if the 42-year-old, who tutored Zubimendi while managing Real Sociedad’s B squad, is also signed to the same agency.

Like Alonso, Zubimendi may be tempted to leave Real Sociedad for Liverpool during the summer of 2004.

Since joining Real Sociedad’s development programs, the 25-year-old has played in 188 competitive games, scoring a goal each time. He was a key cog in the Basque team’s 2019–20 Copa del Rey victory and their 2022–23 run to the Champions League.

Zubimendi had a solid summer for Spain, appearing in four matches for the national team and making a remarkable halftime substitution in the 2-1 final victory over England.
