Scoring Almeria 1-2 Real Madrid: Will the rookies compete effectively?

In the opening match of the new La Liga season this morning, Real Madrid continued to sublimate to defeat rookie Almeria. But victory came to them extremely hard. Real conceded first and could only win in the second half...

Real preserved the result 2-1 thanks to a dominant midfield holding the ball. Almeria tried to attack but in vain, thereby witnessing the opponent holding 3 points to leave the field.

Real was elated by the roaring victory, but it also served as a warning that this season would be exceedingly challenging since Almeria and other poor clubs may cause even the reigning champion to falter.

Here are the scores for each performance of Real Madrid players

Toni Kroos – 8.5

The German midfielder absolutely dominated the midfield tonight. Kroos didn’t have much to do defensively, but in possession and in attack, he was at the top of his game. The 31-year-old recorded 81 passes, 3 key passes, 3 shots and 5 long balls. He was Real Madrid’s leader on the pitch tonight.

Lucas Vazquez – 8

He might be lacking on the defensive side, but Vazquez can be a great asset going forward in games like these, and he showed it with his equalizer. Despite playing at right-back, he recorded 3 shots and 2 key passes, and let’s not forget his other goal that was ruled out for a minuscule offside.

David Alaba – 8

Alaba was a sub tonight, but his impact was crucial. The Austrian scored the match-winner with a perfect free-kick, and let’s not forget that it was his first touch of the game. In the few minutes he got, David showed that he can still be a great left-back despite not playing in that position too often.

Karim Benzema – 6.5

Not the best night for our captain. Benzema missed 3 big chances, which is quite uncharacteristic of him (at least if we are talking about the recent seasons). However, we can’t give him too low of a rating as he played an important role in the build-up, providing 4 key passes.

Antonio Rudiger – 4

Rudiger is at fault for our conceded goal. Instead of making an offside trap, Antonio decided to play personal defence against the Almeria striker, which was a mistake. With 2 clearances and one interception, his defensive contribution was clearly not at the required level.

Others: Courtois 7.5, Nacho 6, Mendy 5, Tchouameni 6.5, Camavinga 6.5, Valverde 7.5, Vinicius 7.5, Modric 7, Hazard 7, Ceballos n/a, Casemiro n/a.
