When Liverpool’s official 2024–25 squad portrait was unveiled on Monday, supporters saw that, in contrast to other versions of the identical image, something was missing.
Some Liverpool supporters are wondering why the team’s official 2024–25 squad photo does not include the League Cup that the Reds won earlier this year.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Arne Slot in the front row, Liverpool’s team portrait features a manager other than Jurgen Klopp for the first time since 2015.Usually, silverware from a club’s previous season is placed at the feet of the players in the first row of a squad photo, but this one had the League Cup missing.
“Why isn’t the league cup trophy in the photo?” a perceptive Redditor asked. Although the reason for the cup’s absence from the image is unknown, a Reddit user speculated: “I wonder if it’s because Slot’s team didn’t win, but it does seem strange.”
The 2022–23 season was the last occasion Liverpool entered a season having won at least one trophy the year before. In that season’s squad photo, the Community Shield, the League Cup, and the FA Cup were all placed at the feet of Klopp and his players in the front row.Under Slot, Liverpool has had an outstanding start to the new campaign. Reds supporters will be hoping that the team photo from the following season includes a trophy or two. After winning five of their first six games, the Reds are atop the Premier League. They have also triumphed in their opening games in the League Cup and the Champions League.
With the significant management change that occurred in the summer, many supporters anticipated that this season would be a transitional one for Liverpool, who were in a title fight until the last weeks of the previous campaign. But given Liverpool’s early season performance, a lot of football fans are wondering if Slot’s team will be competing for the championship at the conclusion of the season.
