Steve Harvey Acquires Tyler Perry’s Former Atlanta Mansion for a Staggering $15M

Harvey buys Tyler Perry’s $15M Atlanta mansion

Madea, then Steve Harvey. Always laughing, those walls. According to TMZ, Harvey and his wife Marjorie bought Tyler Perry’s Buckhead property for $15 million.

With their content, Harvey and Perry might create a TV network. The former, 63, hosts “Showtime at the Apollo,” “Celebrity Family Feud,” and Miss Universe. Perry appears on BET, Netflix, OWN, Nickelodeon, and others. Before becoming famous entertainers, both were homeless and lived in their automobiles.

Perry sold the lavish 35,000-square-foot mansion for $17.5 million in 2016 after almost two years on the market with an unreasonable $25 million asking price. The home became Atlanta’s most expensive residential transaction despite the multimillion-dollar disparity between the asking price and the sale price.

Before reading about the 7-bed, 9.5-bath home’s many features, take a breath. First, setting: 17 acres with groomed lawns and gardens, a 70,000-gallon infinity-edged pool, illuminated tennis court, gym, and spa. The extravagant estate has a guesthouse, guardhouse, detached caretaker suite, modern security, and a backup generator that can power the estate. Besides formal and informal living and entertaining rooms, the French Provincial-inspired main residence has a state-of-the-art theater, indoor pool, wine cellar, and underground ballroom with catering kitchen.

Former businessman turned preacher David Turner bought from Perry and sold to Harvey, according to buckhead.com. Turner built his wealth making dried fruit and nuts. Like his business, his $17.5 million home purchase seems illogical. “I went online and saw this house, and that’s when I felt like God told me, ‘This is your house,'” he told the outlet. Since Turner lost $2.5 million when he sold the mansion, not including carrying costs, upgrades, and realtor fees, God must have commanded him to sell it at any cost.

Another enormous Atlanta property and a 6,500-square-foot, 5-bedroom, 6.5-bath Little Elm, Texas estate are both available from Harvey for close to $1.1 million. His family lived in a $100,000/month rented property in Beverly Park, a guard-gated neighborhood in the highlands above Beverly Hills, before buying the Perry estate.

Perry also owns a 24,000-square-foot Beverly Hills estate that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry live in.
