Steve Harvey Makes a Grand Purchase with Tyler Perry’s Former Atlanta Mansion, Investing a Whopping $15M

Steve Harvey buys Tyler Perry’s $15 million former Atlanta home.

First it was Madea, and now it’s Steve Harvey. Those walls will always make you laugh. TMZ was the first to report that comedian-turned-talk-show host and self-help author Harvey and his wife Marjorie had bought a mansion in Atlanta, Georgia, that used to belong to movie mogul and star Tyler Perry. The house is in the wealthy Buckhead area.

With all the shows Harvey and Perry make, they could probably start their own TV network. The 63-year-old former host of “Showtime at the Apollo,” “Celebrity Family Feud,” and the Miss Universe pageant is a familiar face on TV. Perry has shows on BET, Netflix, OWN, Nickelodeon, and more. Both have come from nothing to become famous in the entertainment business. Before they became famous, they were homeless and sometimes lived in their cars.

Perry sold the clearly luxurious 35,000-square-foot monster in 2016 for $17.5 million. He had it on the market for almost two years with a ridiculous $25 million asking price. Even though the gap between the asking price and the recorded sale price was many millions of dollars, the property still made headlines as the most expensive home sale in Atlanta history.

Take a deep breath before reading about all the great features in the 7-bed, 9.5-bathroom spread. The first thing is the setting: There are well-kept grounds around 17 acres of lawns, a 70,000-gallon infinity-edged pool, a lit tennis court, a fully-equipped gym, and a separate spa. The opulent estate has a guesthouse, a guardhouse, and a separate caretakers’ room. It also has a backup generator that can power the whole estate and an advanced security system. The main house, which is based on the French Provincial style, has a modern theater, an indoor pool, a wine cellar, and an underground ballroom with a catering kitchen, as well as many formal and informal living and entertaining areas.

According to buckhead.com, David Turner, a former businessman who became a preacher and made a lot of money making dried fruit and nuts, bought from Perry and sold to Harvey. His business seems just as crαzy as the reason he spent $17.5 million on a house. “When I saw this house online, I felt like God was telling me, ‘This is your house,'” he told the site. Turner lost an unbelievable $2.5 million when he sold the mansion, not counting the costs of maintaining it, making changes, and paying high real estate fees. God must have told him that the house had to go at any cost.

Harvey also owns a big house in Atlanta and a home in Little Elm, Texas, that is 6,500 square feet and has 5 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms. It is for sale right now for almost $1.1 million. But before he bought the old Perry house, he and his family mostly lived in a $100,000-a-month rental mansion in the guard-gated Beverly Park community in the mountains above Beverly Hills, California.

Perry also owns a few other very large homes, including a 24,000-square-foot house in the Beverly Hills area that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are currently living in.

Chase Mizell of Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty was the seller for the home in Buckhead.
