Instead of participating in Manchester United’s training camp in Spain, Jadon Sancho will remain in England to work on an individual program “as part of a process to get back to his highest level.” Sancho’s absence from the camp is expected to have no impact on the team’s performance.
United will spend a week in Spain getting ready for the start of the new season of English domestic football. While there, they will play friendlies against Cadiz on Wednesday and Real Betis on Saturday.
Due to the World Cup, Erik ten Hag will be without 13 first team players, and the Premier League club has confirmed that Jadon Sancho, who was not selected for Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Qatar 2022, will also not be present.
The 22-year-old player has reportedly been working out with the Dutch amateur side OJC Rosmalen, where he is reportedly working with coaches who were recommended by Ten Hag.
United Airlines confirmed the following on their website on Sunday: “As part of the process to return to his previous level of play at the highest possible level, Jadon Sancho is carrying on with his individual training program. The club is standing behind him 100% in this endeavor.”
The previous season, Sancho only managed five goals and three assists in 38 games (27 starts) for his club after making a move from Borussia Dortmund for £73million (€85m). This season, however, Sancho has already recorded three goals and one assist for his club in just 14 games (12 starts).
As they continue their comebacks from injury, the defensive trio of Axel Tuanzebe, Aaron Wan Bissaka, and Brandon Williams will not travel with United to Spain.
The Red Devils will get back into action in the EFL Cup on December 21, when they will play host to Burnley in the fourth round of the competition. The next day, on December 27, they will get back into action in the Premier League when they play host to Nottingham Forest.
