The youngest of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’s daughters, Tallulah Willis, has shared the devastating moment her father’s Alzheimer diagnosis “hit me painfully”.

After being previously diagnosed with aphasia, the 68-year-old actor was given a frontotemporal dementia diagnosis earlier this year. One rare variety of the horrifying illness that impairs conduct and language is frontotemporal dementia.

Bruce’s 29-year-old daughter stated that it took some time for the diagnosis to set in. She came to the realization that her father would never be able to speak at her own wedding ceremony, though, after attending a friend’s wedding.

Tallulah gave an explanation, saying, “I was at a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard in the summer of 2021 when the bride’s father gave a heartfelt speech. That’s when it hit me terribly. I suddenly realized that I would never get to experience my father talking about me at my wedding as an adult.”

Tallulah referred to the realization as “devastating”. She said, “I left the dinner table, stepped outside, and wept in the bushes,” in an essay published in Vogue.

Since learning of his dementia diagnosis, Bruce’s family has supported him, and in the months that have passed, his wife Emma Heming Willis has worked to raise awareness of the illness. In honor of World FTD Awareness Week, Emma made an appearance on The Today Show this week. She talked about how she had supported her husband.

Emma gave a candid glimpse inside her marriage to the actor and talked about her personal experience taking care of Bruce in the interview. She acknowledged that she had experienced “grief and sadness” as she saw her husband’s health decline.

After the TV appearance, Emma’s stepdaughter Scout LaRue Willis offered her support. The 32-year-old posted on Instagram, saying, “I genuinely cannot express how proud I am of @emmahemingwillis for her willingness to share our family’s story in order to raise awareness about FTD, even though it is terrifying!!!”
