Dodgers beat Brewers to continue their hot August and extend their winning run to a season-high nine games

On Tuesday in Los Angeles, the Dodgers easily defeated the Brewers 6-2.

If they continue their recent success throughout the remainder of August, the Los Angeles Dodgers appear set to easily win the NL West.

In their 6-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday, the Dodgers didn’t require the long ball. Instead, in a five-run sixth inning at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers battered the Brewers with a barrage of singles to blow up a close game.

With the victory, the Dodgers increased their August record to 13-1 and boosted their winning streak to a season-high nine games. Since they won 12 games straight last summer, this is the team’s longest winning streak. The Dodgers have a nine-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the NL West and are at a season-high 26 games over.500.

The Dodgers finally got going at the plate on Tuesday after a 1-1 stalemate went into the sixth inning. With a deep double to left field that brought in Will Smith and sent Max Muncy to third, J.D. Martinez got things going.

The Dodgers went up 4-1 after Kike Hernandez’s two-RBI single brought in Muncy and Martinez. Additionally, Mookie Betts and Miguel Rojas also had RBI hits in the inning. The Dodgers led by five runs after 10 hitters had been faced.

They easily held on after that to secure the victory. Carlos Santana’s solo home run in the seventh inning gave the Brewers their final run.

For the first time since July 22, rookie pitcher Bobby Miller started for the Dodgers and went six innings while allowing just one run and one hit. He walked once and struck out four times.

Prior to the game on Tuesday, the Brewers had won four straight games, including a series victory over the Chicago White Sox. They have a 3.5-game advantage over the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.

The Dodgers will host the Miami Marlins after this three-game set with the Brewers, then leave for trips to Cleveland and Boston to finish the month. Even though August has only reached halfway, the Dodgers already feel unbeatable. The NL West appears to be the Dodgers’ to lose with the Giants having dropped seven of their previous ten games and the rest of the division floundering at or below.500.
