In a heartbreaking extra-innings loss to the Rockies, the Yankees twice lose leads

The Sunday game between the Yankees and Rockies quickly became intoxicated in the late innings, as is frequently the case in the high altitude.

The Yankees had already put forward one candidate for their worst loss of the season by the time the commotion was through.

The Yankees still managed to lose in heartbreaking manner despite blowing a two-run lead in the eighth inning, scoring two runs in the top of the ninth to force extra innings, and then pushing over two more runs to regain the lead in the top of the 11th.

The Rockies won 8-7 on Sunday at Coors Field thanks to a walk-off home run by light-hitting infielder Alan Trejo against Ron Marinaccio in the 11th inning with two outs.

After left-handed pitcher Nick Ramirez allowed left-handed hitter Nolan Jones to blast a game-tying, two-run homer on the first pitch of the inning, Marinaccio entered the game. As of right now, the Yankees have dropped to a tie for last place with the Red Sox in the AL East and are 1 1/2 games out of the final wild-card slot (pending the Astros’ game on Sunday night). They have now lost six of their last eight games.

Manager Aaron Boone stated, “We have two and a half months to position ourselves to be championship-caliber.” We must go show that it is our fault. In terms of the teams we face, Major League Baseball guarantees that you will win some games against strong opponents and lose others to weaker opponents. Every time you go out in a major league uniform, it’s a grιnd.

Today, they outlasted us. We’re definitely upset right now that we lost the series, but we have to accept the fαct that we did and go on.

It appeared as though the Yankees had a great chance to win the series given the starting pitching matchup going into the game: Chase Anderson facing Cole, who had allowed 27 runs in his previous four outings. Instead, Anderson shut out the Yankees over the course of five innings, allowing them to take a 3-1 lead in the sixth thanks in part to the Rockies’ poor defense.

But in the eighth, Clay Holmes took over after Tommy Kahnle had loaded the bases with two outs and delivered his first home run of the year at a difficult time. Holmes left a sinker down the middle that C.J. Cron crushed for a grand slam, giving the Rockies a 5-3 lead after falling behind Cron 2-0.

In the ninth inning, the Yankees scored two runs to tie the game, benefiting from yet another Rockies blunder. But after Harrison Bader’s sacrifice fly tied the score, pinch-runner Oswald Peraza attempted to advance to third base but was thrown out, depriving the Yankees of the chance to win the game without going to extra innings.”Can’t really kιll the aggression there, especially when he saw [no one covering third base],” observed Boone. “They attacked him in a play. In general, you shouldn’t try to make that third there at third.
