The first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens didn’t take long to surprise his father with a brand-new, high-end SUV.
Even though Zay Flowers, a receiver with the Baltimore Ravens, has only been in the National Football League for a little over a month, he is already giving back to the individuals who helped him get to this point.
Flowers recently surprised his father, Willie Flowers, by purchasing a brand-new Mercedes SUV. This was one of Flowers’ first significant expenditures after becoming eligible for the draft. As a token of appreciation for the sacrifices that his father has made, this gift was a little token of appreciation for the recent draftee.
“I used to see him get up and go to work at 4 a.m. in the morning; he did that every day Monday through Friday,” Flowers shared. “On Saturday, he would get up, wash our clothes at the laundromat, make breakfast for everyone, and drive us to football games.” After that, do the same thing on Sunday and then go back to work on Monday. Seeing him do that gave me the drive.”
Willie and the rest of the Flowers family have had to make a lot of adjustments. Nicole Walden, Zay Flowers’ mother, died in 2005 from a head αccídєnt. Because of this tragedy, Willie Flowers had to raise 14 kids by himself. Zay is the 11th child in the family.
In addition, Willie Flowers taught his son a valuable lesson that made his move to Baltimore seem fated. At 5 feet 9 inches and 185 pounds, Zay Flowers is on the smaller side, but he has learned from his father not to let that hold him back. In particular, Willie Flowers compared his son to former Ravens receiver Steve Smith Sr. Smith was frequently compared to the Boston College Eagles standout prior to the draft. Zay Flowers is now able to wear the same jersey that his idol formerly wore.”My dad always told me, ‘It doesn’t matter about size; it’s about what’s in your chest,'” stated Flowers. “You have to be like Steve Smith,” he would always remind me, and that kept me motivated. The Steve Smith was a canine.The Ravens were impressed with Zay Flowers’ character even before he set foot in Baltimore. The receiver’s narrative was a major factor in the decision to bring him to the Queen City, general manager Eric DeCosta stated following the first round of the selection.”We spend a lot of time interviewing these individuals and conducting extensive research on them, and Zay was one kid that I have to say… DeCosta remarked, “I haven’t interviewed many more impressive, just face-to-face prospects at the Combine and then here in Baltimore.” “I was really, really impressed by his story, his resilience, and his ability to just succeed and handle things.”
