Quavo Teases Solo Album ‘Rocket Power’ With Surprise ‘Who Wit Me’ Dugout Performance at Braves Game

The Migos member treated 40,000 fans to a song honoring his late nephew, TakeOff, on Tuesday night (Aug. 15).

Quavo surprised the 40,000-plus fans who turned out for the Atlanta Braves’ game versus the New York Yankees on Tuesday night (Aug. 15). The host team, which has a comfortable 10-plus game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East, cleared some space on the top of their dugout for the Migos member to promote his upcoming solo album, Rocket Power, which is set to be released on Friday (Aug. 18).

Quavo bounced back and forth across the dugout shouting the chorus of his new single, “Who Wit Me,” at a packed Truist Park, wearing a No. 94 jersey with his album title across the shoulders, slipping in an ad-lib shout-out to his hometown on the song that honors his late nephew, Migos member TakeOff.

“My nephew just told me he’s got it/ Even my sister just told me they’ve got it/ I’m sayin’, I’m sayin’ who’s got it,” he rapped along to the song. TakeOff (born Kirshnik Khari Ball) was shot and died on November 1, 2022, while attending a private party in downtown Houston with his uncle.

“If you’re ready for the Braves, let me get a ‘Yes sir!,'” says the announcer. Quavo yelled to the crowd, encouraging them to support the club with the best record in the majors. Quavo’s anticipated second solo project will follow his 2018 solo debut, Quavo Huncho, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album list; the rapper also collaborated with Travis Scott on the 2017 joint album Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho.

In a recent interview, Quavo remarked of TakeOff’s death, “I think about him all the time.” I occasionally cry myself to sleep.” He also stated how, as a result of the loss, he had to adjust his work flow when creating Rocket Power. Normally, he would edit the hook and verse and present it to his Migos teammates, which include Offset, but “now he’s [TakeOff] gone and I don’t have somebody to play the song for… I just try to connect with the soil and hear them in that way.”

Quavo stated that the album, which was first teased in May, is inspired by his late nephew and rhyme partner’s spirit. “All of the pain, all of the hard times, all of the times I cried, and all of the times I just made music [to cope with loss],” he explained. “And to pull up and try to play songs when he’s not there, and I’m just trying to get this fuel from above and this feeling from the sky and call it Rocket Power.”
