THE KING IS BACK! Manr United icon Wayne Rooney is touted to take the managerial hot seat at Birmingham City

Wayne Rooney, a legend with Manchester United, reportedly has his sights set on managing Birmingham City in the English Championship.

The Englishman is one of the best to ever wear the Red Devils’ jersey and the club’s all-time leading scorer. He played in 559 games for the club in all competitions, scoring 253 goals and setting up another 145.

Rooney, who is still relatively young at 37, has some managerial experience. His current post as manager of MLS club DC United dates back to 2022, making it his second managerial job overall.

The U.S. team has improved by slightly over a point per game under his leadership. In terms of average results, this is his lowest showing with any club he has managed. Birmingham is still considering a bid for Rooney should current manager John Eustace resign.

Since famed NFL quarterback Tom Brady has invested in St. Andrews’, the club has an American link. Even if Rooney has a shaky track record in the front office, his nаme recognition could make up for his lackluster performance.

Rooney has experience in the Championship, having served as the interim and then regular manager of Derby County.

He saved the Rams from relegation in 2021, but the following year they were sent to the third division of English football. To be honest, when the club went into administration, Rooney’s hands were tied. You could sаy he was put in a tough spot from which there was no way out.

There is currently very little rationale for Birmingham to sign Rooney. Considering they are now in second place in the Championship, only two points out of first, it seems reasonable to keep the existing management. Despite his legendary position, Rooney has done very little to suggest he can be a top manager in the sport.
